Domain donation directly to a charity

I have a .org domain that is the last name of a famous baseball player. His charity is currently using a 25 letter domain that is made up of three words (his first name, his last name and the word foundation dot org). My domain (last name dot org) would be perfect, but they want it for free, and I would like to get something more out of the deal than just a warm and fuzzy feeling for being a nice guy.

I was thinking about donating it and taking a tax write-off. The problem with that, however, is determining the domain's value for the IRS. The domain would go directly to them so it wouldn't go through a sale to determine the price.

Any ideas on the best way to handle something like this? I look forward to ideas and recommendations.

From my understanding the IRS is cracking down on appraised value of items donated because many people abused the appraissals to get a bigger write off, and actual value is the determing factor, in this case what you paid for it, I may be wrong and as always you are better off getting an opinion from a tax preparer/accountant

Here is how people do it when they donate equipments (computer, printer, etc...).
- Give the item to the church with the invoice
- When the Church pay the invoice, you deposit to your bank and write a check to donate to the church
- The Church will send you a letter at the end of the year (for the IRS) how much money (from your check) that you donated.
