Okay, I have a low-threshold of patience, when I'm watching a name that is in danger of being hijacked.
Here's the syndrome.
1. You're searching for a name, and you notice that its being sold by a domain name reseller.
2. You see the resellers website (via their e-mail address) is down, and checking the name, you see it had expired, and was recently caught in the drop.
3. Staring at the name, you realize two things:
#1. There's a GREAT chance that this name will drop
because the reseller obviously went out to lunch.
#2. There's the possibility that the name will be *ILLEGALLY*
hijacked because someone NOW has the domain name of
the administrator address.
Sigh.
What would you guys do? My first reaction is to try to make a public record somewhere of the domain name and its precarious situation. In the past, I've registered the admin address, and sat on it just to ensure a safe drop for the name (even if I never ended up getting the name).
What would you guys recommend? My pal has run a website for years, that he'd like to abbreviate, and the abbreviation was owned by this reseller who's clearly gone out of business. The name drops in December, and we're making plans to get the WLS when that comes about, but we also need to ensure a safe drop as a first priority.
Thoughts?
