Domain Owners Association, . . . is it about time to have one

It might be a good idea to establish a domain owners Association with strong financial and legal resources in order to challenge some of the unfair practices and tactics that are conspired against domainers in order to liberate their valuable domains from them. A domainers Association could also protect domainers from frivolous UDRPs and reverse hijacking and help to recover their domains. Perhaps an Association could bring some order and clarity by introducing a standard guideline for the industry and by educating all who are involved with domains in a more systematic way. It might also be able to provide members with additional services such as legal advice, domain registration and insurance, discounts on hotel and airfare or group health and life insurance. In order for this idea to work the Association must be neutral and must surpass any boundaries or negative competition between major forums by having trustworthy officers from all forums and the support of all domainers.

In fact it leaves many questions unanswered. Does anybody here belong to that group or have any information on them? I'm reluctant to join any group without more info than what they offer. However, the membership fee of $6.95/ year sure seems like a good deal.....if its a real association

I think anyone who tries to form such an organization will be very surprised at the disagreement even with the domain owners community. You would have to keep such a narrow scope that it likely wouldn't be very useful.

Owner is RJ from Name pros. I am a member of DNOA. If you visit NP you will see the members. It is like DNF Verified but with more than just a logo next to your name. DNOA is still in the beginning stages.

I very rarely visit NP. However, I have known Ron a long time. Long before NP.

And, have the highest respect for him.

It is a great idea. But, a professional organization requires a full time,
professional staff in Washington, New York City, or somewhere that they
could become effective for their members.

They need to be professional public relations experts and lobbyist.

Ron should think about how to make DNOA into a serious domain association.

And, that requires higher assn fees than what I see on the site.

Better PR and definitely a much higher fee ...

Perhaps more realistically a graduated fee structure - very low fees for personal / hobbiests / small business to signup...

And much higher fees for larger business, domainers, etc to become "professional members" or whatnot; they'd get extra perks, such as a special logo they could use, more extensive service / assistance with ownership issues, etc.

Those who are considered as the leaders of the domain industry with the necessary knowledge and experience should work together to combine any existing Associations to include all who are involved with domains regardless of the forum or group that they belong to. The Association should be able to represent the domain industry as a whole if it is to be called an industry.

It might be time for Adam and -RJ-, as the owners of the 2 largest forums in the industry, to create a strategic partnership for the better of the industry as a whole. That's the only way I can see this becoming a serious venture.

Am also a member of that. Its really good initiative buy i think needs more attention as if there is not much organised activities , it will lose its purpose.

On a related note, cross-linking often generates more traffic for all the sites linked not less contrary to what many would suspect; it's not a zero-sum game. Shame many who claim to be internet savvy still don't get it. Oh well End of my tirade for today LOL!

I am a member of DNOA and one of the great perks is the Domain Privacy, which saved me well over the membership fee.

Also sad that DNOA is not accepting new members at a time they are getting some nice publicity.

It's a fabulous idea with excellent benefits to professional domainers.
