What do you think the average increase in tld generic domain name pricing has been in the last 12 months? Lets stay with .com, net and .org for now. ie 50%, 100%

I know that it is a hard question to answer for all names, but just want to get a feel for what the market is doing for an average domainer who is picking decent 2,3,4 word generic domain names.

I think the prices increased at least 300% last year for all the extensions.

For generic one word domain names the price of .org, and .net went even higher.
I would say before the price of these was about 5-10% of .com, right now the price
is at least 15-20% in vast majority of cases.

The rise of the prices has nothing to do with the US dollar weakness, I think the
fact that we have all these auctions popping up every week, this fact alone pushes
the prices to the limit. Many people emotionally attached to their domain names, and
they think that their words can cost the same as the ones that sold during the latest
Moniker.com auction.

It is very hard right now to acquire .net and .org premium domain names for a decent
price, and every year it will be harder. At this point if you have on your hands 50k you
can't afford to buy a one word .com domain name. Look at the forum, there are no
one word .com domain names for $50k anymore.

In this market will be very hard to flip domain names often, people will be flipping
but it will take more time to complete the cycle, but flippers will get their money back by
asking higher prices. If you are in the position to hold your premium domain names I
would advice you to do that.

Getting more money for your domain names in the future is not the only
reason to hold domain names now, if you hold your domain names for some
period of time you can claim the revnue as a capital gain and pay twice less
taxes, as opposed to selling right away. Consult your accountant for more
info.

The key for a future success I think is in the development. For a long time many users
mentioned in the forum that development is where the money is, but now it is becoming
even more important.
