Not sure why anyone would be shocked or dismayed by anything involving domains. I always mention that this industry is the most lucrative, most unregulated, multi-billion industry in the world. Wall Street's jaws would hit the floor if ever there was a money figure attached to the regging, the buying, and the selling of domains.
Only domainers know how domaining works. Bankers? Nope. Congress? Not a chance. Wall Street? Don't even go there.
And, from Page's perspective, it is domainers who screw over domainers. No one else to blame for getting the hand bitten off except for the other hand.
