This happened sometime back,

One of my fellow domainer got sued by a multi-national corporation.

They have already great names in their portfolio, but they wanted to corporate rebrand.

There are 10000000s of domains, and the corporation wanted his domain name,

A classic David vs Goliath...,

When the negotiations didn’t go well, they sued him.

They did not offer any price. His asking price was $4888. His greed was not too much.

They sued him, and made threats.

They slapped a legal notice, and “publicly” revealing his identity, and citing domain was registered in bad faith, and that he was a “squatter”, and won the case.

This corporation has tons, and tons FII (foreign investors).,

It globally operates in many countries. And, most infamous.,

Angry that multi-national corporations have such lowly ethics, so as to slap a case on poor guy.

Now, he spent $1500 for UDRP, and more money and time on a “local” case against the corporation

Also, a well know lawyer was engaged for the case, but the result was in the MNC’s favor.

I also worked many long hours, sleepless nights on this case.,

I co-worked with the lawyer on many points..,

I referred so many books, studied many past cases, citied many references, but all in vain.

And, it has took a toll on everyone’s health!

The poor domainer has quit the industry. Now his better-half is holding few domains..

I don’t want to reveal the name publicly.

Reminds me of Nissan.com that was owned and registered by a man whose name was Nissan, BEFORE Nissan the car company became Nissan (back then called Datsun). Nissan Motor tortured that poor man for a couple of decades trying to get that domain. Mr. Nissan would win most cases but took a lot of time and money for him, then he passed away due to COVID. Luckily his family inherited and still owns the name.
