10,000 march in Toronto

Satnam Matharu and his wife, Reema Said, did something they normally wouldn't think of doing with their two kids on a Saturday morning.

Wouldn't it be more productive if they demonstrated in Iraq.

Actually NOT. Mainstream western media usually turn a blind eye to things that happen in the "South". This 10K rally in Toronto gave a very good signal at least to decision-makers in Ottawa (Canada) and to a certain extent those in Washington.

I doubt whether 10,000 (high end of the generous estimate) socialist Canadians (with plenty of socialist US citizens I'm sure) are going to make a dent in the policy making strategies in Canada and especially not the US.

We are going to war unless Iraq complies - period. Expect it to happen on February 1st.

The point I was making was that it would be better for Iraquis to demonstrate to the Iraqui government.

Sorry, but for what? They are not the ones who are waging a war (at least not this time)!

Maybe someone should just point out to George W. that he doesn't have to try and avenge his daddy's failures without a real cause. Trying to divert attention away from failing US economy and the failure in Afghanistan is not a reason to now go after Saddam Hussein. He hasn't been complying for years, why choose now?

i wouldn't consider our operation in afghanistan to be a failure. it didnt result in the capture of Osama, but it sure did a lot of damage to Taliban and Al-Qaeda infrastructure.

Draqon, I appreciate that, but if you see the objectives as laid out, making Al Qaeda and the Taliban scurry is not the same as destroying them. A little planning could have gone a long way

HE has been non-responsive for years, its the timing of when they decided to go after him that gets to me. As we also know, North Korea will not be treated like this, because their leader did not embarrass W's daddy.

Saddam cares NOT of his own people... such is why HE conducted war fare on his own people.

Women in Iraq have NO voting rights or othrr rights.... the women are pawns in his regime.
Saddam suppresses and oppresss his people./

Thiis type of totalisiam does not gell well with my thinking.\

I agree with you Wanda May, however, the US should have learned its lesson after Vietnam and realized it not our place to be the "policeman" of the world anymore. We may not agree with his ways, but it is not our country. Our leaders gladly flipped the bird at foreign dignataries who disagreed with our slaugher of the Native American. How dare our country be such a hypocrite.

It's simple, we tried, we failed, get over it.

I don't want to sound harsh, but I witnessed it all first hand. There is only so much to do before it becomes counterproductive.

ozone, its reasonable to argue that the looming war in iraq is an attempt to distract America from our economic woes. Im not saying i would agree with that, but its a reasonable argument. But our military operations in Afghanistan were clearly not for that purpose, the country was angry and hurt after thousands of people were murdered by fanatics, and Bush responded logically.

Ya... everyone just hide in a hole ... it will all go away if you just ignore it. Better to do nothing ... and just see how it all turns out ... right?
