Dot coms with a dash.

Whats the general consensus of the group considering dot coms with dashes? For example: hot-job dot com. Is it worth considerably less than most dot coms without the dash or does it depend on the word?

Yes, heifens. Apparently my mind was elsewhere.

Heifens are really bad for a domain name, however hyphens can be used with good effect, :laugh: although they still lower the value of a name.
Some domain resellers do make a point of collecting good hyphenated domains and some commercial sites actually prefer hyphenated domains - as with everything it depends upon the quality of the name in the first place..

A domain with hyphens are usually harder for visitors to remember, just keep that in mind.

If your going after search engine traffic to a developed site, hyphens make no difference, the SE sees it the same.(just as TLD makes no diff to the se) Therefore your placement(ranking) in the SE, will be based on content and inbound, oneway links. So if you have a keyword rich, hyphenated name, it is as good as the non-hyphenated version as far as se traffic to a developed site is concerned.

As far as resale of just the name, yes as said above, a hyphen will lower value considerably.
