Dreamweaver is the most used professional HTML editor , while the other software mentioned by you cannot be considered professional HTML editor at all.

My personal advice: stay away from FrontPage, and get Dreamweaver.

Well i think that Dreamweaver is the way ahead from what most people have said so far. I just hope it's not too hard to get a grip with!

I've been looking to get some design software for some time and have spent a while asking people which one I should get and which is the best. The overwhelming response is get Dreamweaver. I am told there is a bit of a learning curve to get to grips with, but then that is the same for any other editor.

All Ireally want is basic webpages with a few online forms, that looks good, you may be surprised but the best one so far that i've used, without being able to apply webforms, is a free one i got from the front of a pc mag! Yet it's too basic and doesn't have many advanced features. I have advanced slightly more than that can offer me now. (Not blowing my own trumpet but it's true!) My genericz site (link below) was made with the free software, it works, but doesn't look too professional and has no advanced features such as webforms etc etc!

dreamweaver is the market leader, but it is still a massive bit of software to get your head around..

i have been using it on/off for 5 years and only used it for roughing up a design lately
(but now use photoshop for graphic layouts),

i prefer homesite (coldfusion studio 4.5.2 version) for the actual coding... of templates/pages.
i think HS still comes with the lastest version, or have macromedia done that in.

.

BTW iam still on dreamweaver 4 so you could probably discount my ramblings

but it all depends on your needs

Hello,

I also agree. Dreamweaver is one of the better design products as it has many features to offer, split screen Html code and preview of site.

Its very professional and easy to use.

Simply put, DreamWeaver is THE industry standard, and there's no doubt about it. Although I still love handcoding with ... notepad (or Microsoft Word for really large files). ;)

Without a doubt Dreamweaver is the best HTML editor you will require.

I learnt how to use it at the age of 13/14 instantly so I dont see where there is a learning curve involved.

There is one bug that has been present for all of the versions that I have used though which is hard to figure out unless you know how to - when the browser output is different to the DW output and the tables are all over the place.

Its a WYSIWYG editor (What You See Is What You Get) - And The Best One.

If you are a php coder it has most of the functions stored and everything is recoloured so you can tell which part of your code does what (plus the colours are customizable)...

... But in honesty... Dreamweaver is worthless if you havent got a great graphics package like Photoshop to tweak the code
