There's a name that is going to drop tomorrow but when I check the whois the name expires next year.

Which is it? Expires next year or is it going to drop tomorrow?

Genrally, drop services don't get updated as fast as WHOIS does... it COULD be that the domain has been renewed and the drop lister just doesn't know it yet.

You will know when the start auction date comes and goes but the domain never gets posted for auction. Happens all the time.

Good luck though.

No. Some registrar automatically put 1 extra year onto the exp names to control the deletion. They don't really pay for the extension.

You can't say "no" and then say "some"... LOL!!!

Some may and some may not. Snap will show domains that are dropping with old dates, current dates or a year out then sometimes get them, sometimes not or sometimes get them a day late and then auction them.

They are bidding for the domains (in some cases) before WE get to bid on them... so if they are sold to another drop lister, or are renewed by the PO... that all changes things.

Snap will leave a domain, unoffered, for weeks on their list even though it was renewed by the PO or sold to someone else.

So it's not "NO"... it's "or it could be".

The big thing is... nobody seems to know for sure but it COULD happen one way or another.

Either way, it's best to keep watching it for a few days... just in case ;)

Good Luck.

No problem. That extra year is just for the Grace and Redemption periods.

The expiration date and deletion date of the name are two completely different things. Certain registrars may auto-renew the domain on the expiration date, then start your grace period. After that is when they make their profit; the redemption period. One year after the original expiration, the domain name drops.

Just from my experience. Hope it helps.
