I'll post this here in advertising, since I'm soliciting for ideas for my commercial product.

I'm working on the charting features of DropShark 1.1 right now. I have some of the obvious charts, like number of n-letter domains (picture a curve-chart with the X-axis being the character-length of a domain and the Y-axis being how many domains there are of that length).

I'm interested in what other charting features you all would find useful.

Perhaps an analysis of vowel-position in names? It's been suggested that names that have a vowel in position two and four of a domain indicate pronouncability, for example. Yes, that's rather esoteric, but it's an example.

Perhaps a history of how many domains have dropped over the past few months to show a trend?

See where I'm going with this?

Ultimately, the software is only as good as what it can do, so I'm asking you all what you'd like it to do. No suggestion is too silly - I promise I won't laugh (well, out loud at least).

Post here for discussion, or PM me if you wish.

Version 1.1 already has link popularity tools built in. But linkpop doesn't really lend itself to charting unless you check each and every domain. That's a good way to get your IP blocked.

Unless you'd pay for a linkpop subscription?

If I sent down linkpop numbers with every domain, would you pay a monthly fee for that data? Because I could just purchase it from a number of providers and share the cost out as a subscription (say, $9.95 a month?)

Is dropshark still the early adopter version, as in all upgrades will be free instead of limited to one year or whatever its planned to be? I downloaded the demo and was pretty impressed by it even though the features like linkpop don't seem to be implemented yet. Let me know, as you may have a paypal coming your way :)

The Early Adopter offer ended on September 1st. I was going to end it in August, but I kept it open while the article ran in DNJournal.

But for you, I might make an exception, if you give me some features you'd like to see :)

overture would be very nice, but I'm not sure its possible without getting ips banned and its probally a load killer doing it for a whole list. But if you could pull it off, I'd definately buy it :)

Already done. Version 1.1 (not yet released) has overture built in. Yes, you have to hit it from your own IP, so don't do too many, but you can have it check the names on your search list automatically.

I have a line on an overture feed for the whole drop, but it costs.

I also have a huge server farm at my disposal, so I might just do the distributed scrape thing myself and build it into the DropShark data feed.

Either way, it's getting in :)

Well then Dropshark can replace my multiple website visits during my domain researching then. Been looking for a program that reports overture results for quite a while while keeping all the other common features. Great work Chris!
