I don't have enough time to explain things in details now, I'll do it in the near future.
In few words: I'm very angry with the nic.it (Italian Registration Authority for Dot It domains) and I've an hypothesis (note, this's not a real accusation yet but something I want to proof) regarding the fact they're often corrupted and that they don't give anyone pair opportunities to get their wished domains.

Because I hate wrong things, I'll go ahead with my investigations and if I'll proof this, I'll damage them with negative advertising in all domain forums because they promise to assign domains on a "first come-first served" bases, ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE !

Once again, I'll complete this thread towards the beginning of August when I'll have more free time but here's in brief what I'm affirming:

An expired Dot It domain can be registered starting from the midnight of the day it has been deleted, not before or they'll reject your request.
I affirm that they follow this order of priority: priority to Italian companies with VAT (in case of competition among multiple companies, they give priority to 3 companies usually always involved in all new important registrations which use the acronyms VIP - Publinord - PWS ... PWS has priority on anyone else when they attempt to register something, they get it !).
VIP and Publinord work together, never seen both of them competing for the same domain and they've priority on anyone else except on PWS (In the near future I'll show you proof of many past registrations where you'll see this by the registration history).
Still not sure about the priority they give when more private citizens attempt to register something but I'm always in the past position among them too :)
A final position is for foreigners (show me I'm wrong).

Ok, in few words: domain editoria.it is available and you'll be able to register it from today's midnight (Italian time) within about 4hours and 20minutes ... If someone knows how applying for an it domain, feel free to try and to keep it in case of success or I'll buy it from you for 200$ but you'll never win :(

Once again, I'll publish the whole Nic.it story online, explained better and with more calm, within few weeks.

NOTE: You can keep an eye on Dot It registration history from: www.nic.it/StatoReg
Editoria.it has been released one month ago (suspended for abuse I suppose) and this's the reason for whom they made it available only starting from this midnight (after exactly 30days in case of suspension for abuses).

A quick help for you to better understand Dot It history:
cancellato = deleted
registrato = registered
in registrazione = processing registration
respinto = rejected

You'll have to fax a particular letter to apply for an It domain, they'll reject it affirming you sent it too early (before the midnight) or too late (someone else beated you on the time) or because they're unable to read some parts of the same because not well printed or because your signature is not readable ;-(

I know the future: editoria.it will be assigned to VIP, nothing to do :(

Registrar and the Nic here are two different things.

You make a purchase at the registrar. You need then to fax the LAR to the nic. The nic doesn't care if you purchase your domain 20 days before sending the LAR. Their first come first served is based only on LAR receival

Correct: you can even send the LAR before you register the domain (it's what I usually do) the important is specifying the "maintainer code" you wish to use and, if the registration is accepted, you can then register and pay for such domain in a second time ... And it's exactly the "first come-first served" of LAR that the Nic is not respecting, their real policy is: "We serve first who we like" ;-)

UPDATE ABOUT EDITORIA.IT: Until yesterday it was available for registration from the midnight of today but now they're rejecting all LARS with a clear, simple and honest explanation: "Domain can't be assigned yet" ... But why, what's the problem now ? :(

Have you tried phoning them?
When I do it they tend to answer all my questions.

btw, nice to see other Italians in the business..though it seems strange conversing in English when our main language is Italian :P

Well I do not believe anything wrong happened with nic.it in the past I had a friend that last year started specializing in dropping .it he got some very very nice and super prime names without a lot of effort, the only thing was the syncronization of the fax. Now things have changed but from what he told me he started to reg again some nice names.

Sometimes the others might just be better.
