Has anyone ever gotten an unsolicited email from these guys asking you to name a price for one of your domains? Their site seems to be a brokerage site

A few people on the namepros board seem to think it's a scam. They call it the "appraisal" scam. What's that?

Anyway, here's a copy of the email I received (with the sender name removed in case he's legit)

Offer for xxxxxxxxxxxxx.com (sent 09/06/2008)‏ From: [email protected]

Sent: September 6, 2008 4:41:18 PM To: [email protected] Hello,

Your domain name has been found online.

Please let us know your price.

We make money on selling and buying names and sites. Now the domain
business is very attractive.

Looking forward to do business with you.

Regards,
xxxxxxx

Yes its a scam. They want you to pay for their appraisal service before buying...yeah right.

Go back and say I will pass on the appraisal, they will come back with a terse email saying this is "customary" business practice and you are an idiot basically...lol...

Very common scam.

Yeah, I found the appraisal emails on later google pages.

I've already sent this guy an email asking what his budget is. If he tentatively accepts my $500,000 asking price, I'll laugh at him.

i replied with an asking price of $750k, and he replied ok, but only If I use his appraisal.

I've gotten one of these before, but not from the same person. They just want you to spend your money on their expensive appraisal service and then they run like hell.
