Maybe this is the way to do things, I was never a hard ass until this one and it worked. From now on I will probably be tougher on negotiations.

Actual Email string below, start at bottom.
I have changed the domain and the buyer's name to protect the transaction.
=========================================
The domain sold at 60k.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll meet you half way at 60k.

Adam

Hello Adam,

I am interesting in buying the domain.com domain. Can you send me a price?

We can use a escrow service to complete the transaction in a secure way (escrow.com).

Many thanks,

Potential Buyer

First thing was a phone call the previous week for the domain and I stated the domain was not for sale. Potential buyer then threatened me and said he had a tm and was coming after the domain. Trademark search showed there was no tm.

I couldn't agree more. Not the being a hard-ass part, but sticking to your guns and not backing down. Every nice sale of this sort allows you the luxury of holding for your price on any future offers. I am talking realistic pricing of course. There are only so many really good domains and it would be a shame to surrender them for less than they are worth. Nice job Adam!

I'll unveil the name once the sale closes, but it's a name I bought off a dnf member and NOT one of my prized generics. ;)

When you told him "you wouldn't consider offers below $40k"; that's usually when the buyer knows that you will eventually sell for $40k (if he's a little smart and stubborn). I'm surprised he agreed to $60k. :)

Nice sale and good job Adam, congrats!

And they are always using it for their "wife" or "charity".

Many of the inquiries I get are (falsely) said to be for some type of non-profit or real small business use so they can't afford to pay a lot. One was from a man who said he was calling on behalf of his 9 year old daughter who wanted the domain for her personal dairy so they could not pay much. Odd thing is he did not want the dot-org whcih was unregistered even though I told him .org is a good extension for a kids website.

The domain is going throuigh escrow.com now, I'll post as soon as its official, early indications seem to be that it is bmw behind the purchase, not 100% sure yet though.

His wife's BMW dealership in Lima, Peru? :D

IMO there is very little honesty today on either side.

Many sellers jack up prices and say "well, I've had offers in the (range) and refused them" and many buyers make up stories about how they want it and rarely get into the truth.

I figured it was Europe because his dollar figures were 40.000 not 40,000 which usually means Europe

Time will tell, either way I am happy with the sale.

I thought the use of a period in the number figures meant European too.

So it was a .com domain?

Won't DCG be surprised when he sees a whopping $60 in his account! :)

Congratulations on the sale, though.

You never know, but hey if it falls through the next guy will have to pay 120k for it. ;)
