A few questions -

Is this the same forum that was auctioned on ebay about 2 months ago? If so, are you the original seller and the deal didn't go through, or are you the new buyer turning it over?

Also, has there been any SEO done to the site, and do you know why it is showing a PR0 in Google (white bar)?

Thanks

Yes, it's the same forum, I bought it 3 months ago, but now I have to sell it due to some unexpected financial problems.
SEO has been done, if you make a search on Google you can see many backlinks, the only possible explanation for the missing PR must be the Google dance. I sent them an email about a month ago, asking about this (I first thought the domain was banned by Google, because I didn't know how the ex-owner used it before) but they assured me there's nothing wrong with it. With the next update, I expect at least a PR5 for this site.

That's a nice forum for sure. I wonder how much the reserve price is. Could you please PM me (in case you don't want to post it publicly)?

Well I can tell you that the reserve is higher than $1200, as thats what I bid.

I noticed you are based in the UK, but whois for this name is in Canada. What is the connection with Canada?

Our company has two headquarters: one in Montreal, CA and other in London, UK. We have websites registered in UK and Canada as well.

The PR0 still seems strange for an established website as this.

are you going to tell us the reserve? you paid $1500 for it so what are you expecting back?

I can assure you that PR0 is just a consequence of the Google dance. As I said before, I wrote to Google about this and they, at their turn, assured me that I have nothing to worry about, the domain is not banned or penalized by them.

The reserve is low to mid $X,XXX.

I went to $1500.00 and still have not hit the reserve, so I am out, I can buy more for that kind of money.

So if your considering making a bid, it must be greater than $1500.00

As you said in your previous post, I paid $1500 for it when I bought it. Meanwhile the forum got a new skin, a custom developed counter and considerably more backlinks, traffic and member activity. Sorry, but the selling price is a little higher than that.

I am sure it is, I am just advising other interested parties simply not to bother unless they go higher than the $1500.00.

Not being critical.

Since backlinks are cited in the sale, it might be fair to all potential buyers to state in advance what will become of these links. This is also important information with regard to the future recovery of PageRank.

Thank you for your willingness to answer this and all other questions -

All the backlinks coming from our sites will stay for 3 months after the sale. This should give the new owner enough time to find and develop his own link partnerships.

Ok, so I have been working some of these number since your looking for at least £2,000 for this site.

358 Members
6031 Posts

of the 358 posters 37 have more than 20 posts and could be considered regular posters, thats just 10.3% of your membership is active currently.

of the 6031 posts, 5834 represent posts made by that 10.3% active membership, or 89.2% of the posts made.

further to this the bulk of the 37 seem to be posting to get free domains.

So as I see it, if you take away the offer of free domains there is no active membership there at all.

Now I am not trying to trash the sale, considering I am the highest bidder on ebay at $1,800.00.

But would you consider the comments above a fair criticism of the site activity at the moment?

Wise, you are saying you are not trashing his thread, but that’s exactly what you do. You’ve obviously done your homework about this site, and so have I, since I’m also interested in it. As far as I can tell, the forum is pretty new, less than 7-8 months, and we all know how hard it is to get a forum started, especially being a forum on a niche market. So, he’s giving away domain names for people to post… I don’t see anything wrong in this, even if those people post only to get the domains, as you said. As long as they don’t post crap, visitors will see there’s some level of activity on the board, they’ll sign up and, one by one, they’ll start to post too. It takes much time and patience when running a forum, I don’t know about you, but I have dealt with forums before. And other forum owners can confirm it too: it just doesn’t happen over night.
Also, the board has only 350 members, if it had 2000 members and only a few were posting, this indeed should have been a reason of concern.

If you see such inactivity, then why did you raise your bid from 1500 to 1800? I think you’re only trying to discourage other people from bidding so you can get it yourself.
So, be a sport and let the guy sell his site. It’s his business how much he wants for it, if the price doesn’t suit you simply don’t bid for it.

Wise - we are all doing our research, but a lot of the data you have presented is plain for all to see by going to the site. This seller has been totally forthcoming in answering questions and providing data. And the seller has the right to ask any price he/she chooses - it's an open market system. : )

No offense Wise but I agree with Nemesis and xbase234. Anyone with any interest should have gone through every thread and page of the site and pretty much figured out what the landscape looks like and its potential for revenue or growth. Are you asking for confirmation of the #s available from the site itself or asking for a prediction of the future?

Better questions to ask might be--What would your own business plan and expectations for the forum be? How do you see growth and a return on your investment and do you have the ability to make those happen? Ultimately you have to decide for yourself if the financials and time involved to grow the site will work for you. Another way of looking at it might be what are you willing to pay per active member that to some might represents a potential built in future revenue stream? To others those same members might look like a short term liability. Bid accordingly and then move on.

I could be wrong, but it feels like you are revealing private pmed info like the 2,000 number and trying to negotiate the price via this thread instead of Ebay. Just my opinion.
