A few questions:

So if we are in the US, we are not allowed to register them?

Does Pool have a big advantage over others if we put in names through them?

Beantown

"The following categories of companies, organisations and individuals will be able to register a .eu domain:

- undertakings having their registered office, central administration or principal place of business within the European Community;
- organisations established within the European Community without prejudice to the application of national law;
- natural persons resident within the European Community."

I hope it explains the rules for .eu.

Concerning Pool I can say only 'ouch' if I see their price for .eu.

No one knows who has distinct advantage. Each of them claim to be the BEST.
Lets wait and see 4 more weeks.

Limited to EU citizens.

is there any loophole that would allow a US citizen to register them?? I remember reading there were legal "tricks" for registering other extensions available right now that are supposed to be limited to only natural persons. Any ideas?

To register .eu domains, here are your options:

1. Move to Europe.

or

2. Set up a corporation in a European country (can be done quickly and cheaply, there was anger over iREIT apparantly doing this).

or

3. I believe that some registrars will act on your behalf as the registrant since they are European-based. You better trust the registrar though.

Why does Godaddy have ".eu" on its pulldown menu? Does this mean someone can register one now?

4. See if you have a friend or relative who is legal resident/citizen of one of the EU member countries and who you can trust.....I just realized my brother-in-law who does not even know a thing about domaining might actually be interested in trying to get some in his name...:wink:

Not to mention that the domain will go into as auction if others will want it...

a. Godaddy is taking backorder only at the moment

b. As for auction- I am not sure it will be decided by auction have after the 7 of april. Godaddy takes only one backorder per domain. So the question is how it will be resolved with the other registrars ???
maybe they are submitting a date for the backorder ???

Anyone know of any companies which can act on your behalf as the registrant for .eu domains?

None that I know of... but why don't you register a company, so you are sure your domains are not sniffed in front of your eyes, because you don't fully comply with the EU regulations?
I would not take that chance and go through a second hand, if I want to invest in .EU domains... but that is just me.

sigh i have to wait for april 7 then coz i am from malaysia

I thought that even after April 7, If we do not fullfill the requirement to register eu domains, We just can't register...

Please, let me correct If I am wrong.

What is the exact time of the landrush start?
btw, I am selling a very-fast bulk .eu php checker script (1400 names per minute)

What does it cost in terms of U.S. dollars to register a .eu domain during the landrush?

It costs the registrar 10 euro to registrer a .eu domain with EurID (the registry) during landrush, that's about 12 US dollars.
Of course you pay a fee to the registrar for their service (usually between 2 and 5 euros).
So the registration of a .eu domain should set you back some 18 US dollars/year. (15 euro x 1.2)

I suggest my customers always to buy a British company, yoffi.net sells them for only 150 dollar.
