I almost purchase a domain name that I was interested in, I google and could not find any site or service using the name.

So I did a trademark search, and there was a trademark on the name without the .com and it was cancelled a few months back.

Now this domain is brandable, could it be used even if the trademark had been cancelled? and as per the trademark description it has something for sports as I was going to use the .com name more as a portal for a city and tourism, hotels, etc.

It could be okay but those are questions for a trademark attorney.

The reason I say this, it may be property of a defunct company, merger, or something like that. It could be assets.

You know I never really consider that aspect of the trademark issue, thanks. :)
