"These past holidays, I regged the names of some friends, and gave them a certificate saying they owned their .us name. A page was put up saying Home Of ......., so it resolved right away. They went wild. Like they had been given a winning lottery ticket. People are intimidated by the 'net. Having your very own spot there makes it feel more like home."

Awesome! I thought about doing this, but ran short on time and never really gave it any more thought. This is an excellent story. I wish I had done this for Christmas!
My family's birthdays begin in February, and you can be sure this is what I'll be giving each and every one of them ... thanks!
Good Luck.

PS. Did you get a "certificate" from the registrar ... or did you just make one up on your own?? If it's the latter, that's fine ... it's a good idea, too.

A certificate from Print Shop Pro was used, and a gold label from Staples added. It looked pretty good, like a diploma or something.

The first reaction was shock, and then amazement.

Immediately they had to try it on their computers, and there was their own web page, a 2Mb Junior web from GoDaddy, with their own address and e-mail. All that has to be done is add content, through ftp, Front Page, Composer, etc.

This was one present that will always be remembered. Cost? About the same as a good bottle of wine, which was the other choice in most cases.

I have Maura.org and Vint.net, but unfortunately don't know anyone with these names.

If the .net is intimidating to some, I wonder how they feel about the .com?

Isadore.com
Jacquiline.com

Of course if anyone in the forum is named Isadore or Jacquiline and are interested in owning their name just let me know. :)
