No, I think he means he bought it. I remember being told that IDN weren't worth anything!

Anyway huge domain, longer term probably going to be worth more than your ASCII version, but the Arabic market is quite a way behind the far east. Finally, though I believe that Arabic will be huge, not as big as Chinese but probably the next biggest IDN market. Dot Com will have a huge advantage over ccTLDs.

Rubber duck are you saying that premier Arabic names are worth that much now? how does a person find buyers? i have some very good ones but i have no idea what to do with them (other than hold on to them which i will for the most part; but being in need of some cash, i'd like to sell a few now.)

I've just offered to sell mine individually at between $5,000-$7,000 and now I'm thinking that's way too low.

am i right?

Well as with all domains you have to wait for the right buyer to come along and that can take time. I have received an unsolicited approach from a buyer that is not known to me for a domain in yesterday. I have quoted him low to mid $xx,xxx for that particular domain, because that is what I believe it is worth. We will ony have a deal if he shares my conviction. If he is one of the Johnny come latelies that think he is going to scope the pot for a couple of hundred bucks, then he will just have to try his charm somewhere else.

I think he is talking about idn - there will be a mad rush once IE7 is announced to the world - it's like we'll be going back to the 1990s, except that now everybody knows domains are worth money.

Millions of dollars are going to pour in overnight, and 90% of the best .com IDNs (WITH READY TRAFFIC) are in the hands of less than 50 people.

As people start to download and install IE7, idn owners will see traffic rising many folds as the months go by.

And when major Asian websites start to promote idn.com for their websites, traffic will increase a few more folds as Asians start to learn how to enter native character URLs.

While it took the .com 5 years to take off. IDN.com will takeoff in just under a year.

These applications and mods to existing apps will develop out of necessity. It's a sure thing in my opinon.

Due to the large numbers of Chinese websites and even those created by speculators at IDNFs, I think we can safely say that FTP is not a problem.

Mail has been supported for a while now. Office Outlook has been able to do these with support of the Verisign plug in for several years. Even with the release of IE 7.0 they will not be natively supported by most Microsoft applications until the release of Vista and the next generation of Microsoft Office.

Unfortunately, Microsoft have trailed in a pathetic last on the delivery for IDN, which has due to their market share has had a devastating impact on the IDN market to date. Even the intrasigent Gates, however, has belatedly recognised their importance, not just to the people of Asia, but to the survival of Microsoft. Do you seriously think Hu would have been the qudos of a visit if he continued to deny China what they most desire?

Clearly, the message has not got through even to many in the Internet Community, but all that is about to change. Within 3 years you will hardly see an ASCII URL for Asian Internet sites. Not only will China, Russia and the Arabic World have certainly converted, but I firmly believe India too will also be using local script URLS. Actually, you only have to look at the prices that English dot IN domains are fetching see that this market reality has already sunk in.
