Just got this in my email alerts from TravelZoo.

Great deal for anyone on east coast US planning on going to Hawaii. Get flight to Charlotte and you are on your way. I have not seen a roundtrip airfare PLUS non-stop like this for years! Me thinks they are trying to book domestic flights to make up for continental europe flights cancelled.

>From the Travelzoo Newsdesk:

CHARLOTTE--APRIL 20,2010-- Nonstop air to Honolulu from
Charlotte just dropped to $536 roundtrip, including taxes.
This saves $400 off of regular prices.

These are unadvertised fares and could sell out quickly.

Travel in May, June and August. July departures are slightly
more.

Maui is way better than Oahu, you should check on flights there :)

Kahului flights are historically higher (cost wise) than Honolulu. And... You are right. Maui is better than Oahu. My opinion of course. Inter-island flights can be not too expensive, so a flight to Honolulu with an inter-island flight to Maui is sometimes less. There is time spent for the extra flight though, and time is money.

Um, the post was about R/T airfare, non-stop, from Charlotte to Honolulu for an incredibly low rate of $536 bucks.

It is not about going to another island.

Perhaps contact Travel Zoo or the participating Airlines?

Yes, but not always.

One of the reasons is that San Diego has a direct flight to Maui -- but summer ONLY. So if there is a segment from the east coast to San Diego, and both segments have lots of seats available, then it could be cheaper to go to Maui.

San Diego doesn't have many long distance direct flights (post 9/11), but because they have still have a few sometimes great prices can unexpectedly pop up like that. It's like we can be randomly used as hub when a segment is undersold.

Doc, what if one of Hawaii's volcanoes erupted?

Merely offering advice to anyone considering going. If you discuss Hawaii - I'm in the discussion. One of my obsessions. Sorry if you feel like we stepped on your thread.

Actually, I thought it was kind of comical. Its like, yeah, hawaii is nice but I like Fiji better.

Doc, what if one of Hawaii's volcanoes erupted?
If it was a major eruption and the ash clowd/plume shut down the west coast USA (or even drifted up to mainland Asia, Japan, etc) that would be something.

Then again, I would love to be in Hawaii and call in to work and tell them I am stranded and have all the televisions confirm it for me.

Steve McGarrett of Hawaii 5-0 would have loved it :D
