For phpbb forum,
50 members,
About 1 to 1.5GB/month bandwidth.
A friend's experience.
Just for reference;)

I would pretty much agree with the above, maybe even less. Space is very reasonable at maybe 10-25 Mb, unless you store a lot of avatars.

Personally I like phpBB. It's free open source software with an active community developing it. I actually like it's interface and ease of use better than some of the others.

My server provider has banned Ikonboard a either a security risk and/or as a server resource hog.

I kind of learned it myself by using it. I would recommend before going to far to see if the version you have is the latest release which I believe is 2.0.4. There are also a lot of good mods that are easier to install before going live than later. The people at the help forum on phpBB.com can answer most support questions.

Another good source is phpbbhacks.com for add-ons.

Good luck.

there are alot of good php/mysql free forums at hotscripts.com, phpbb and invision are the best IMO, Iknoboard and Yabbse are good also but are resource hogs., If you decide to use phpbb 2.0.4 make sure you get the google and aol fixes (I think these are very important) Without them google will have a bastard of a time indexing the forum, and aol users will get session errors., but the community behind phpbb is incredible., Using invisionboard.com you will get a great product out of the box., But there is some issues with changing the theme for 1.1.2 you would have to get the fix for that., I think both of these script are pretty equal overall, I did notice that google was able to index invisionboard better than phpbb (that just might be me though) good luck either way.
