FOXnews.mobi JUST ANNOUNCED!

which ones pl??

I was just poking fun at the idea that foxnews.mobi is somehow good for all .mobis

But since everyone is asking - think of a large American corporation (or multi-national) and they likely have a .ca.

gm.ca
vw.ca
ford.ca
walmart.ca
cargill.ca
honda.ca
monsanto.ca etc etc etc

Many others have the .ca but like .mobi just forward to their .com.

Does it make all .ca's worth more? Is it good for .ca in general - sure, it shows some faith, and I guess at that level the same can be said of the foxnews.mobi domain.

But let's not get our heads into the clouds because of it.

The thing is that .mobi is a brand. So it doesnt matter if it redirects to a .com or not. The point is that all some kid has to do is remember go to to a .mobi site to get a mobile version of anything. They dont have to rememer wap.foxnews.com......... and something else for a different .com such as mobile.cnn.com, etc. Wherever the .mobi takes them is irrelevant. If you are using length as an argument then are you saying that foxnews.ca is worth more than foxnews.com and better since it is one letter shorter than .com? Also, i heard that if you go to foxnews.mobi from a cellphone instead of PC then it doesnt redirect. I havent checked though.

I didn't say length (or lack thereof) adds value. I said that as a counter-argument to the statement that people would use foxnews.mobi instead of the true redirect to wap.foxnews.proteus.com because it's shorter/easier to remember.

.mobi is hype because it's a moot TLD: content does not depend on the TLD.

And if FOX News does not deliver content to mobiles when visiting their main URL, that's their mistake. In fact, their site is losing out because not only they use a different TLD (.mobi) than the .com but it's a redirect. Proteus.com is the beneficiary here.

it was going to happen sooner or later..

Great News Guys!

in the end, it really doesnt matter what is hype and what isnt.

if an overwhelming amount of large companies get convinced by this hype and start using/advertising this hype.. joe schmo on the street doesnt know enough to realize that .mobi isnt needed, more importantly joe schmo doesnt even care..

the point is the content is on the .com not the .mobi as it is simply a redirect

But... they are using a .mobi to advertise it to the public.

Which is the part of the argument for .mobi = yes it's a mobile site

foxnews.mobi = fox mobile site

wap.foxnews.proteus.com = this is our long url that is actually our mobile website but you will never remember it when you see it in a print ad, or if you hear it spoken out loud, so we'll just use the .mobi

proteus seems to be the company that developed the site for Fox, so I would think Fox would put this site on their own domain eventually, maybe the .mobi

.mobi is hype because it's a moot TLD: content does not depend on the TLD.

We know any extension can be used for mobile but the public will just see .mobi = mobile

Similar to how .com came out first and everyone got used to that, .mobi will be perceived to be for mobile, if they brand it right.

Great news. Like my new sig? LOL

What say you Maroulis, Labrocca, Acroplex, Fearful, sdsinc and all the elite members of the modern day Flat Earth Society (aka MobiHater Club)

What am I, chopped liver? How dare you leave me off this list!

If we're the Flat Earth Society, your the Heavens Gate Cult. Cut off your wanker and wait for the tail of the comet Mobi to wisk you away to a better place.

It will interesting to see what the OST numbers are for Foxnews.mobi next month

so what if its forwarded to a .com. the point is NOT the technology, its how it brings in traffic. But of course FOX.mobi would have been better.

Speaking of the devil, (.)mobi will be making their site as well from (.)com cause the $'$()#'()$#'()%&()'&'(#)$'()#'($)#'()$'(&&%&'' punks took the name from me.

inc(.)mobi was mine first, and sloppy seconds for them! :cheesy:

ah, and yes, the earth is a sphere and not flat.

Tropical.mobi: Nice site. Professional. Congrats.

Thanks Creature

Cheers Doc ;) Got a feed on the deals page, just to get something on there, but plan is to sell space on the vacations page. I've got a contact page. Gonna wait for the mobi tentacles to spread further before doing any marketing. Gonna crack on with other names in the meantime.
