Hmm. Does anyone know a good free script to allow my website users to create their own email accounts? Like HiveMail, but free. I saw a site www.b1g.net . I like theirs, but I was just wondering if anyone knew anymore good ones?

It is a job and a half to run your email service (!).
There is one good solution out there at Everyone.net - they run a webmail service on your domain, but using their servers.
Since they are a massive operation, they take care of all the necessary maintenance etc., and you just administer the settings like the appearances of the mail accounts, and the users etc.
They used to have a free option, but now it is a monthly-paid-for service, however it isn't that expensive compared to how much more professional it can make your sites look.

I use the service on my www.Atmail.co.uk webmail service. I have about 350 users just from type-ins.

I agree that Everyone.net is both professionally managed and doesn't cost much. I have used their free service before with more than 3,000 users (domain later sold for a good price partly perhaps because of the traffic from its free e-mail) and later their paid group mail ($10/month for up to 100 mailboxes) for my design/hosting clients.

But my question remains if it is worth when you pay $60/month or $500/year for up to 500 mailboxes. Does the traffic/advertising covers that or do you charge your users??

Everyone.net are great, and they're still free for larger clients. I have a free email service with 106,000 users through them, and it runs very smoothly indeed.

Oh yeah, they have an ad-supported "sponsored mail" for larger sites which target US only audience. Just curious how you manage that 100,000+ user base? I was already crazy with those spam complaints just from my 3k users! And by the way, I have yet to thank your site (emailaddresses.com) for listing hkg.net; I had got a lot of traffic from there before I sold it almost 2 years ago. :)

I used everyone.net a couple years ago and was also impressed with them even then when they had more "growing pains"

Have a question though.. using cpanles webmail .. isnt it possible to set up email accounts for your visitors without giving them a subdoman account (and the email /cpanel that would be generated with that?)

I am also looking for a email solution for saintcloud.us I am working on.. Dont need many email accounts to start off with.. less than 100.. so I know fo rexample I can give wally the autody guy a free subdomain walllys.saintcloud.us and he will get his own email account with the included cpanel for his subdomian.

But is it possible from my main account saintcloud.us to generate 100 ( I have permissions to create more than that ) and give out free email that way ?

How would one access their email in that kind of situation? I went looking at "horde" the email program that comes with his cpanel version but couldnt fiond a clear answer..anyone know?

Probably best to just go back to everyone.net but wondering about this approach ?

I really like b1g.net mail though. Its nice because you only need to have one pop3 email account, that is catchall. And it can open as many virtual accounts as you want.

I get 2-3 spam complaints per day. I take care of them every couple of days or so as a batch - takes perhaps 15 minutes tops. Not too much effort. BTW, I've added another 150 users since my first post :)

I suspect it's the provider market and NOT the end-user one that whitelion was talking about, that's why I asked.

Oh right.. I forgot about the topic of this thread for a moment ;)

I doubt though that they would get into that when they are so successfull already by doing what they are now.

Actually, it was 106K users (now 108K...) not 160K ;)

Mainly it's the users doing the advertising for me since every email they send has a signature tag line promoting the site, though of course I also link to it from EmailAddresses.com and my other sites, and run some banners on EmailAddresses.com as filler from time to time.
