I just registered game.ws. I paid for it throgh centurydomains.com a wildwest domain site. I registered and paid for as I have done with hundreds of domains. This time when I went to look in my account the domain didn't show up!

I then got an Email that said:
The following domain name has failed to be registered:

GAME.WS

Error: pendsetup: (554) Domain already registered;

We will evaluate this error and retry the registration if appropriate.

If we are unable to successfully register the domain name, your account will be credited accordingly. Please allow one business day for the refund to be processed.

Please contact Century Domains if you need any further assistance.

How can they do this? I am very frustrated. I found a name with obviously very good value. It was availiable to register. I registered it, I have the reciept that I paid for it, and now they may not let me have it?

Any advice out there? Can they do this? Is it legal? Should I fight for it?

Thanks!

Why is this in legal issues?

Happens to everyone, its either a mistake on the part of the registrar (and they almost always refund you) or someone grabbed it just before you...

How can I be sure if that is what happened? Anyway to track it? It seems to only happen when it is a really valuable domain name. If the register says it's availiable then it should be. The chances of someone else grabbing it with in the 20 seconds it took me to process the order seem slim to me.

They actually grabbed it 2 years ago.

I had that similar message come back to me a while ago on a domain, sometimes it means that they didn't connect to the registry , I went to another registrar and it went through. You have zero legal stance on this if you read all the disclaimer at your registrar.

Ok, thank you everyone. It happened to me a couple of days ago with bottle.tv, I got a similar Email, but 10 minutes later it was in my account. With GoDaddy it seems strange that it would show as availiable and not really be available. This type of thing has never happened to me before with longer domain names or names that are not as valuable so I am a little skeptic.

This has also happened to me several times. Then once I check the WHOIS information I come to find out that the domain has been registered for sometime. This has happened to me atleast five times. I would have to say it's probably a bug within the registrar.

I always check at least 2 registrars when l find a nice .ws like that avail. or any other .ws I'm interested in regging, I use both NameCheap and GD, NameCheap will show an error while GD will show the name as avail.

I go by what NameCheap says and they havnt done me wrong yet.

this has happened to me on more than 1 occasion with GD. It has happened at least 20 times at GD, mostly with co.uk and .ws names.

Lately, it has happened twice with enom.

An indirect example with enom is this.
log on.
try to register 'webhost'
none are available. Now look below where it tells you on alternative names.
WOW, webhostingcompanies.com which is taken in all other extensions, is available in .COM!!!
try regging it...
You'll get a failed attempt and you will be refunded or not charged.

However, this problem happens most often at GD for me.

it happened to me again today with jfk.us!
Man my heart was beating fast, but I guess if its too good to be true it probably is. I jsut don't understand why it seems to happen to me with only the greatest domains and not the regular run of the mill.

Just no luck huh?

Try this one Blog.info and let me know how it goes. If that doesn't work try investment.biz. If you need anymore tier 1 names in alternative extensions to try, just let me know and I'll sell you a list of a few thousand. Should keep you busy.

Sorry -- Had to write -- I think you're right, if it sounds too good to be true, it's a duck.

Just kidding, MasterOfMyDomain...
