Most companies serve an entire metro area and do not restrict their marketing to city boundaries. Therefore the next logical step for geo domains is Metropolitan Area Portals or MAPs.

MAPs are ideal for real estates companies that want to have a prestigious domain for their geographic specialty. Further, MAPs are being developed for aggregating any of the products and services available in a metro area ranging from pizza delivery and pet walkers to doctors and lawyers.

The commonality of the use of these terms is evidenced by their current widespread propagation on websites. For example, these MAPs when entered as exact searches in google provide the following stats:
“Austin Metro Area” 1,360,000 results
“Boston Metro Area” 332,000 results
“Chicago Metro Area” 1,820,000 results
“Dallas Metro Area” 830,000 results
“Houston Metro Area” 4,080,000 results
“Los Angeles Metro Area” 4,230,000
“Miami Metro Area” 668,000
“Phoenix Metro Area” 4,160,000
“San Diego Metro Area” 1,860,000
“Seattle Metro Area” 675,000
