I am interested in a domain registered on godaddy but expired on 18th June 2010. The domain is a personal domain(name of a friend). Now the domain is in Godaddy closeout auction(time left as shown is 20Hrs). Godaddy is asking for 9$ for this domain.

My question is what will be the procedure if i buy this domain now. is there any guarentee i will get the domain.

Also if i dont buy it then what will happen to this domain.

If you buy it today, it will cost the $9 & 1 year of renewal fees, depending on the extension & discount codes you use, if any. If you buy it from the closeout section, no-one else could bid after you go through the checkout process, and you can be relatively sure to get it. The only reason you wouldn't get it after paying would be if the person dropping it renews it, which is probably unlikely.

If you buy it tomorrow (assuming no-one else grabbed it), it would be $8 & renewal fees, the next day $7 & renewal fees, etc, until it hits $5. After that, it is removed from tdnam, and you would have to hand reg it after it goes through the drop services, unless one of the drop services picks it up & gets bids on it.

Thankyou South.
You explained the whole process in simple words. One more thing if i got the domain will its domain creation date be changed or it will still be that of 2 years back.

Also which other sites offer callout domain service

It should keep it's current creation date.
