I try to avoid godaddy at any cost, moving most of my domains to namecheap

ur .eu's are probably crap, so they r not rushing..

Its strange you should say that, I've been noticing some real crappy .eu's appearing in my account lately, shoot-godaddy-first-ask-questions-later.eu and godaddy-drama-queen-101.eu :drama:.... must be some kind of technical glitch.

at least have sold few this year to cover my regging expenses

Congratulations on covering your reg fees, perhaps you can invest that money in a calling card, I mean phone card to call Godaddy support to resolve your problem, :phone: On second thought why bother? they will eventually read this post and figure it out

hey, i gotta respond from f$$kers:

Dear xxx,

Thank you for contacting Online Support. I apologize for the inconvenience. The .EU registry requires that you renew your domains before 5 days of expiration. Given that the domain was not renewed in a timely fashion, the domain was consequently released to the registry. When a registrar releases a domain, many domain registries will hold the domain registration in a 30 day 'Redemption Period'. During this period the registered owner may renew the domain by paying a redemption fee in the amount of $80.00 (USD)* plus one year of registration.
If you wish to recover the domain from the registry redemption period, please reply with the following information:

. A specific request to redeem the domain (include the actual domain name)

. The last four digits of the payment method already on file that you would like billed, as indicated within your account under 'Credit Card & Payment Info'

. An acknowledgment that your card will be charged $80.00 (USD)*

*If your domain had a private registration prior to expiration, there will be an extra $9.00 charge to redeem the domain, making the total charge $89.00 (USD).

Please note that after receiving your confirmation to redeem the domain, it can take 1-3 business days for the redemption request to be completed.

Please contact us if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,

Scott P.

By default, Godaddy has domains set to automatically renew, but you set them up to not renew, so explain to us again how Godaddy screwed you?

Common issue here: people invest in foreign TLDs but are not aware of the rules.
.eu domains, like most European ccTLDs, are renewed on a yearly basis. Usually the registrar will automatically renew the names on your behalf unless specified otherwise. I assume you manually set auto-renew to off or do not have a funding source.

Saying that, Godaddy may/should have made things clearer ie. 'do not wait until the last minute to renew, minimum 5 days notice required to renew' etc.
It looks easy to lose your domains if you are not careful.
Consider this a lesson learned. BTW the registrar cost for reactivating a domain in quarantine is just 20 euros.

Godaddy is still making a decent profit reactivating expired domains :-/

I've been with godaddy for some time now, and have never had any real problems. Of course I'm careful and read everything, as the interface can get a little tricky at times.

I'm not a Godaddy fan either, the only reason why I have my .eu's there is because they offer the best price....Perhaps there should be a warning of the 5 days, I didnt learn of it until now, but keep in mind, when you remove a domain from auto renew, which is a 2 click process, your responsible for what follows. Angel has done this before, you would think she would of learned her lesson the first time.

I always like the low prices with godaddy, and got most of my domains there for that reason. But I know I better renew before the last day, as I turned off auto renew with them. But godaddy has always send out 2 notices, before they drop and they have even called me at times.

So there is no reason to miss renewing them, I got my main hosting account on one domain with hostway. I was waiting to get the funds on my credit card, and it expired for a day but everything worked yet. I renewed them at normal renewly fees, I was happy to see hostway did not GOTCHA on them.

My point is all the places are different, it's up to the domainer to find out how they handle things. This goes for pricing of renewlys as well, all that should be thought of before you get the domains. Cheap reg fee's can be very costly, if the renewly fee's are high and you did not transfer it. So it's some thing, that needs to be thought out ahead of time.
