I was going through the payment process for a domain I bought at auction with GoDaddy and it offered me Privacy for discount price of "$6.99" . Being stupid I thought it was genuine, but then found that they had charged me $9.99. They now say it only applies to new registrations. IN that case WHY offer me that price ? "What a CON !

Many registrars including Fabulous offer privacy for free.
Besides, Godaddy privacy is thin and expensive - it's nearly the price of a domain registration.

You'd be surprised how quickly Fabulous can lift the WHOIS for a domain.

why the need for privacy?

Most times I dont need or use Privacy, but sometimes it can be useful ,even if it is only a very thin veil that any experienced person (but not end users etc) can see straight through , but is useful sometimes in certain situ's etc. By the way I am hopeful, but waiting 48 hrs, for a refund of the overpay.

DG, is privacy still advertised for $6.99 somewhere on the GD web site?

Yes ,it was as I was checking out it was offered at the discount price saying "save $3 etc etc) and I added it. I then made newbie mistake of not double checking before paying and found myself paying full price . They have said will get back to us in next 48 hrs apparently.

Fair play to GoDaddy, they have refunded the $3 , but better they didnt make such "mistakes" in first place.
