Godtube.com gets $30 million funding!

To be honest i don't see the problem with the name,youtube do not own everything with the word "tube" or "you" in it,i don't see them challenging youporn.com or pornotube.com,o.k they started the sight with a $300 script but so what they got the cash and good luck to them.

It's nice to see evangelism in this form*, although $30m does seem a bit excessive IMHO.

Also, seeing as though it's such a large investment, I doubt they'd do anything to step on YouTube's right. And "Tube" is no more belonging to YouTube than "Bay" does to E-Bay, no matter what these large websites/companies think.

imho it is too late for google to enforce any potential tm for "tube". "tube" is overly broad.

Imagine the bad publicity google would get for taking down a "God" related site...I think they are taking full advantage of this fact and if it was anything else they would be deluged with C&D notices by now..just my wooden nickel.

Not just Google, but YouTube and any other company that may be infringed upon. Religions are a very powerful thing. A lot of thimes they don't even have to answer for their actions (I could name several examples but that would be going OT).

The Catholic church is one of the most powerful organizations in the world. Churches in the US are exempt from taxes and take in millions in donations every year. $30M is petty cash to them especially if this came from as high up as the Vatican.

They have the cash to fight off any WIPO, C&D, or any kind of lawsuit from this and most judges and/or juries (in the US) would be biased (in favor or against) if a case ever fell on their lap so the chances of a truly fair trial here in the US would be almost nonexistant. Most likely they'll pay off (with the $30M they got) anyone who starts to file a claim (settled out of court).

But, the site can be extremely powerful if it is done right and promoted properly.

It could be an investment or donation by a rich Christian businessman.

Christians are one of the most generous people they just don't get published unlike Bill Gates and other mainstream people who every time they donated a huge sum of money the media covers it.

Only when the Christians make mistake the media entities are quick to air it to the public.

If this were a tech, porn or practically any other site, commentors would be groovin' thinking "good for them" (unless of course they were freakin' jealous of that success).

God Tube right now is a MAJOR success story generating over a million uniques per month -- and they reached those traffic numbers in a short period of time. Good for them.

A smart business person wouldn't let any anti-christian or anti-religious venting blind them from looking and searching for any clues or success principles God Tube may have incorporated that has brought them so quickly to this level of success.

There aren't really any obvious business lessons to learn from this that I can see. The growth is largely down to word of mouth (they have an evangelical fan base after all) and the site was set up with empathetic money from the church or otherwise.

I personally find religious propaganda distasteful and really hateful but it sure gives certain types of advertisers another high traffic outlet.

It would be a shame to see this site grow much further in my view... feels like a real evolutionary step backwards... but I expect it will hit the Alexa top 1000 at some point.

Well, the hype is up now. People are probabaly already going to the site.

All it takes is a few priests and/or evangelists to drop the name a few times (you can see our sermon on GodTube.com, check out GodTube.com) and it's wildfire. This is 100% free advertising on a massive side.

I was raised Catholic and when I got older (including recent masses for family events (weddings, christenings etc..) I paid more attention to what they priests were saying during their sermon and they must have a PhD in name dropping. They can drop a name in almost any speech and most listeners won't even pick up on it. Mention it a few times and people will remember it and possibly migrate over to it.

Christians are very loyal, too (for the most part). Once "GodTube" is in their minds, they'll remember it (bookmark etc..) and link to it thus ranking the site higher.

I think there is some business lessons to be taught here.
