That's good ol' Verisign for you. It's nice to see that they don't control everything like they used, although I still feel that they have an unfair advantage in many ways. I'm not surprised by the attempt at a rate hike, which doesn't seem to be the entire issue. I'm happy to see that people notice when a company wants to institute a rate change implying it will help security, etc. when in reality it's only so they can gain 1.3 billion dollars more in revenue.

It ridiculous! Domain prices should be going down, not up! GoDaddy said they'd take over Verisign's business for $4/domain (that's from memory). I think we need to do it (and see how quickly Verisign backpedals). Seems to me this area needs fresh air and competition and personally I'm hoping Congress blocks the Verisign/ICANN deal.
