oil's not going anywhere.too much $$$ to be made in oil. and americans like to consume so it's not going anywhere. I still prefer a buick grand national or 96 impala over this electric car anyday.

Didn't one of the founders of Google also start his own space program (design/construction of re-entry vehicle)?

I am quite familiar with lithium and believe 75% of the forum should be on it.
As for rare metals, minerals, etc...that is well known and that is why alternatives to those ingredients is being fast forwarded. Electrical power is NOT the only alternative being explored and developed.
One of the biggest setbacks to electrical (battery) powered automobiles was the size and weight of these batteries. They were monsters!
Like everything else, the batteries themselves are getting much smaller, more powerful, and consuming less products.
There is a multitude of alternatives to the alternatives being explored. I believe it is a French Company (small private firm) that is making compressed air vehicles.
