Hi guys,

I am a noobie and don't know much about the world of domain name trading, so please forgive me if I say anything stupid :ohwell:

I have recently registered googlecents.com, thought it may be good in relation to affiliate programs and the like.

My questions are, is it any good? Is it likely to get me or the subsequent owner in trouble with Google? And more importantly, is it worth anything?

Please help if you can, as I have said, I am new but sincerely plan to be an active member of this community.

Very best wishes,

Ezzer.

Try to stay away from large corporation names. i.e.) Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, etc.

If you have any doubt about it being a TM violation, here's a link to the trademark search.

Just throw the name away, or better still, mail google and ask them if there is any thing wrong with it

Cancel the domain registration now and stay out of trouble. The trouble is not worth the registration fee. Seriously...

Good luck!

I understand all these advices, but there is a site www.googlebeta.pl that redirect on a page where you can find advertisers. The advertisers came from Google.
Last year the page was not a redirect and had a logo very similar to google, but they wrote on it that had nothing to do whith google.
Look also googlefight.com, it's funny and smart, and they also write on their site "This site is not affiliated with or sponsored by Google". And who give them ads? Google! :)
Google have a list for their trademarks, if googlecent or googlecents is not in the list, maybe you can do something more funny than cancel the domain.
IMHO.

I'd recommend you spend time reading UDRP and WIPRO cases to see what's really involved and how these get resolved. There are a lot of subtlies and in-and-outs to the law.

Also you don't whether these guys already have or will shortly have lawsuits. I am not a lawyer (disclaimer) but I would say it's only a question of time before you see legal action on this domain.

Meanwhile (and for these reasons) you're not likely to find a legitimate buyer. Additionally, once you've received a C&D letter, I believe you're blocked from taking any action including cancelling your registration. So you have to ask yourself what it's worth.

Cheers,

-$100000, as that will be the amount you pay to google for trademark infringement.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all of your replies on this one.

Mixed reactions, but as I see most of them are on the same subject, that it is a potentially 'dangerous' domain to have registered.

I think I will look into cancelling the registration, although I have to say that there are hundreds of similar domains registered by other people, 'googlecents' wasn't the first phrase that I tried (for example googlecash, googlebucks etc. all registered).

Anyway, I sincerely thank you all for your time, this forum is great.

Very best wishes to you all,

Ezz.
