Gopher is a legacy internet protocol that is now hardly used. It fell into disuse in the early 1990's But before the advent of http, and the commercial internet, gopher was king.
The .org is of course very appropiate for all of this.
As for ideas a directory of gopher servers, coupled with gopher clients (all the modern popular browsers no longer support gopher, but the early versions did!)
As for value. I would say its highest use is as a collector's item.
$500 or higher to the right end user.
