The new tld of the UAE, they switched from .co.ae six months ago with a disclaimer that if your company name etc was not registered within that time then it basically was your problem and you would have no recourse if somebody else registered it, of course I have a copy of that disclaimer!

That period has now passed.

Anyway, I like the name- and it is very well known in every country in the world.

A name registered with an Arab registrar and an owner resident in Thailand facing a TM problem with a UK/usa based entity, and and a disclaimer that I know is effective ( I have a very well known company name that they would like and cannot have)!, let me think about that one? Is there not some bad blood between the Arabs and and the UK/USA? Some conflict over oil with one of their Arab brothers I believe.

Nope, I remain confident.

www.uaenic.ae

There are some names that appear to be available, sex, porn, casino etc but under Shia law thay cannot be used so you cannot get them.

Trouble is there are probably no harry potter fans in the UAE so its a dead duck tm issue or no tm issue.
Best to stay away from useless, little known extensions.

well in any case, I'd appraise it at $0 due to trademark infringement and ultra crappy extension.

Nothing against Arabs, actually. But generally a country code extension is only good when the domain is related to something within that particular nation/culture. Something such as oil.ae would be okay or a geographical city or landmark .ae.

Are you saying that the likes of sex, broadband, saab etc would not be appropriate as they are non country specific?

I put tour.ae up for appraisal but nobody did, perhaps it was because it is "appropriate" and would not give the guys a bit of slagging fun?

Those would not be good names in my opinion. If it was a huge country that would be different, like "sex.ru" for example. Just picking out keywords and finding them available in one of the gillions of country extensions doesn't work. There's no "rarity" involved. The .ae extension doesn't even match the name recognition as something like ".to" or ".cc". At least those are recognizable to SOMEONE.
