I have recently started using some of the drop services. Too early to tell if I will have any success - but thinking back to when I first joined DNF, I can't recall a single post where a member here listed a really exceptional name they got through a drop service. It seems all of the good ones go to the big private firms who keep them for themselves.

If you have gotten an excellent name within the past 6 months through a drop service, please post it here - telling us who got it for you and if applicable (where bidding was involved) how much you bid for it - if you want to disclose that info.

I would find it very interesting to know - because it doesn't seem like any of us are getting the great drops.

Duke, when you say a really exceptional name, is this like an A-grade gem you're talking about?

Of course that is in the eye of the beholder - so if you think it was a really good name - wouldn't have to be a worldbeater - then I think people would like to see what others have been successful in landing.

When SnapNames was really new, and didn't have so much competition, they snagged me box.org. This was back in April of 2001. But they've missed a few times since.
Otherwise I've tried NameWinner without any luck.

I would consider Box.org a very nice grab. A year and half ago though. I hope that doesn't turn out to be a continuing story line in this thread. I'm just wondering if any of the drop services available to the average domain reseller is getting anything really noteworthy.

Very nice .orgs Beachie - in fact it looks like only .orgs that have been really worthwhile catches so far. Yesonline's coms and nets look to me to only by worth about the price of the Snap itself (others feel free to disagree if you think otherwise - but lets try to keep valuations very general as I think we're more interested just in seeing what kind of names are getting caught)

Any impressive .nets or .coms?

I've mostly been targetting orgs in the last couple of months, so it's probably biased :)

Snap have got me a number of three-letter's coms and nets too, as well as other stuff..

They also got me globalise.com (my business name) :)

They have got some excellent coms, a previous thread reminded me that GeorgeK got texan.com. There used to be a list on Snap's website..

Here are some great .coms caught with snaps:

* Texan.com (according to GeorgeK)
* FoxSportsNet.com (caught by UltSearch, gets thousands of type-ins a day)
* Bastille.com (the bid on NameWinner was $700+)

Hey Beachie, how did you get globalise.com, if you didn't get it with a Snap?

Well UltSearch is what I mean by a private company getting great names for themselves. I see that regularly. I want to know if the drop services are getting them for anyone else. Are Texan.com and Bastille.com recent grabs - like in the last 6 months or are we talking ancient history.

Beachie I had heard that in recent months Snap was missing almost all of the 3 letter .coms.

Isn't FoxSports a trademark? If so I would think they would be all over UltSearch on that.

Oops...

I accidentally read "almost" instead of "also" :).

Duke, FoxSportsNet.com was caught by UltSearch using SnapNames. UltSearch buys up snaps very frequently. Also, bastille.com and foxsportsnet.com are very recent --- both occured in the last two months. You're right about FoxSports being a TM, but with all the traffic that name is getting, many of us would risk a lawsuit.

I haven't been trying for three-letter coms for a while, but I think Snap are mostly missing them.

I'm sure they still get nets and orgs.

I hope they enjoy the traffic while it lasts.

This is blatant cybersqatting.

In the last few months, SnapNames has got the following for me:-

2002.net
ComputerAidedDesign.com
AstrologicalSign.com
and many more...

NameWinner has got me:-

Developing.net
MagazineSubscriptions.com
and more...

The sadly defunct NameTrack.co.uk service got me:-

Newspapers.co.uk
Affiliates.co.uk
Comedies.co.uk
Cellular.co.uk

Somebody here said snap got him 3 letter .coms. Can you reveal us those names? When was that? My experience is that snap just can get mediocre names like myshop.com etc. Namewinner was good but not good anymore. Korean or chinese use their own scripts and "ICUM accredited" registrars to do "legitimate!" grabs. I am also sure that those koreans and chinese probably saw Texan.com and did not want to grab that name since they don't know its meaning otherwise snap would get 1 out of 3 again.
