discussion Has the Forum Culture Changed, or Is It Just Me?

This is a general discussion thread revolving around the a topic of the original poster's choice.
For me it's less the AI part and more that nobody really replies to anyone anymore. Everyone drops their own little essay and leaves.

Maybe it’s nostalgia. Maybe the ecosystem has evolved. But compared to the earlier days, when membership required payment or invitation, participation seemed to carry more weight. Back then, entry was not automatic. You either paid to join or were invited. That barrier created friction. And friction created accountability.

could you please explain "pay to play" part? .. are we missing anything?
Hi

pay to play, refers to Ricado's quote above

imo...

#1 certainly confirms my complaints to Helmuts and Admin about page dominant sales threads by same member

you can view "new posts" and see in action

On our Canadian site we limit members to 3 sales posts daily, we tell them they can combine many domains on one new thread but 3 total for sale threads per day.

It definitely does detract when one member posts dozens of for sale threads and hogs the New Post screen.

As far as forums being dead....

Well, yes participation is down but visitors still come to view, I find a lot of them are coming from asking questions on AI and AI quoting the source as the forum.

When someone wants a resource on a specific topic Forums are the place to visit but what the problem is is that forums are trying to do too much and they are getting away from what brings people to them in the first place.

Namepros is a classic example, they are trying to be everything to everyone and instead of launching a NamePros Market Lander site they incorporate it into NamePros to boost the numbers and when that does not work they try something else.

Example: How many people remember... One account per user except if you get a Business account?

Well now they have a built in way to access up to 50 accounts!! Think about artificially inflating your member numbers allowing up to 50 user accounts per person

There is only so much one can say about domains without hitting a wall and adding thousands of users is just not possible. If you want to say you have reached a million users by duplicating thousands of accounts then more power to you but content drives a forum.

Spend time daily creating targeted content and the users looking for that content will find you.

Well this particular forum is mainly for sellers.
So what do you expect? And does the forum do some marketing?
