Has this ever occurred to you ?

You park a domain at sedo, it's getting traffic .... about 80-100 uniques a day for a month then all of a sudden it jumps to 5000-8000 uniques a day for like a 3 days then the traffic dies to 1-20 uniques a day ? What's going on ? Any ideas ?

one scenerio is a popular website posted a link to your domain by accident it has happened to me, especially if you own dotcom and they meant to link to another ext, then realizing there mistake corrected it

there is no sure way to find out exactly what went down if you have the domain hosted on sedo's name servers... but if you host it on your own or somewhere else that provides stats/logs.. you can go over those and get an idea of what exactly is going on and causing those spikes.... might be bots.. somebody hot linking... typo... just a mistake.. lots of different things'

I think is has to be bots. As a previous poster suggested, you're better off to host your own domain with a redirect to any parking pages, then you have all the stats to examine.

I once owned the name of a porn star that would go on Howard Stern every now and then, the traffic would spike like that when she was on.

Yes, there was spike of clicks and revenue ! It was making an average of .20/day it spiked to $25 in one day.Now the site is getting only 1-10 clicks a day, much lower then it previously did and revenue jumped to .00 !!!

I am thinking of hosting my domains now, who would you recommand to have the best DNS ?

if your looking to host just this domain and a few others you can go with any shared hosting plan but if you want a little more stability and control, you can get a vps (virtual private server) which is almost as good as having your own dedicated server for somewhere around $50

i'd recommend www.rackforce.com and www.carpathiahost.com both of them are really great.. good luck!

Yes, agree with Mike - Racforce is good - I have a colo there - unlimited domains/email/stats with 200GB RAID and another 120GB drive, high spec machine with unmetered 1.5Mb bandwidth and daily backups -- around $200 but you can get cheaper.

There's really no 'best' DNS -- you can always get a free third DNS server for the ultimate in DNS security. Or maybe for a few bucks a month. If you go with Rackforce, then your DNS is as good as theirs

Yeah porn names are great, wish i had VeronikaRaquel.com!..my G/F is best friends with the porn star Veronika Raquel and shes on next months front cover of Hustler Magazine and the centerfold too I think...her site gets a ton of good traffic that converts awesome and she only has a few links with the company that runs her site..mostly she gets type-ins...when the hustler mag comes out shes gonna get millions of hits, keep forgetting to get a link put on her site! duh! ...I chill at her house here in south florida all the time, good biz to be in for the $$$$$, you should see her house and boats!
