Curious to see what movies you have seen lately that is on the list of Oscars for Best Picture and other categories...

I will see a few more. Usually my wife and I see them together but there are some she does not care to see in the theatre (like Avatar) so I'll go see that myself.

On our list to see:

Invictus
Up in the Air
Single Man
The Blind Side
Precious
Avatar
Sherlock Holmes

Below is a list of those we have seen (many are multiple nominees):

2010 Nominations

I (we) have seen:

Best Picture

UP - The thing I like about animation like this, you get into it so much you forget you are watching an animated feature.

Hurt Locker - I was hesitant to see this as I have heard it is too intense and too true to life. This is a spectacular movie, extremely well directed and acted, and mega intense. Difficult subject matter to deal with and this movie does not hold anything back.

Actor in a Supporting Role -

Inglourious Basterds Christoph Waltz - If you like Quintin Tarantino you will like his typical quirky style in this WWII movie.

Animated Feature -

Caroline - not that impressed with this

Cinematography -

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - If you see one, you have to see them all just to watch these kids grow up.

Makeup -

Star Trek - I really love how this storyline went and did the original series and flicks justice

Short Film (Animated) -

A Matter of Loaf and Death - This is from the creators or Wallace and Grommit. I am a huge fan of claymation and admire the patience it takes to create a short let alone a feature film. This is worth watching to keep up with one goofy Brit and his canine.

Hurt Locker was a terrible movie. As war movies go, heck even dramas, it was terrible. It was very poorly edited, it failed to make me believe in the characters, was boring and it just rambled on. I watched it with a group of eight - only two people liked it. There were a dozen movies this past year that were better.

Sorry you had a bad experience.

As for the editing comments, I believe they wanted to capture "the embedded photojournalist" feel and approach which I felt they nailed.

As for better, well, yes some were better. Inglorious Basterds was the one that really surprised me on the number of nominations. It was a quirky typical Tarentino movie. I liked it but was still surprised by the attention it got.

I have pre-ordered Blind Side, Precious, and a few others I missed in the theater.

I also thought it was great that Star Trek got the nod for Make Up.

Actually, 5 on my short list in the first post went home with some awards.

We've seen Precious...

DAMN, that was a powerful emotional roller coaster.

It is one of those movies that you get so absorbed into the story that you forget that these are actors acting out a roll.

Superb movie with outstanding acting all around.
