Hi folks. I'm completely new to domain selling. I'm sitting on a domain that I registered initially to use, but now I'm getting offers and am planning to sell it. I'm asking if one of you more experienced people could be so kind as to just talk to me and give me some advice on how I should attempt to sell it and how much I should look to get.

If you can help, please reply or PM me so I can contact you and ask for more specific advice. I can give F$ or whatever..

Thanks a lot! :D

Might help if you post the domain. If you can't, PM me with it and I'll give you my 2 cents.

I have been buying and selling domains since 99' so you can pm me with the domain and I can help the best I can. It looks like you joined dnf in 2002, so I am sure you know a little?

Honestly, post the domain here. For the most part you will get good feedback from people who do more than dabble in the industry. I, however, am not one of them.

Stuart.

Ok, I guess it doesn't really matter if I post here. I doubt any of the interested parties will see it, and it's not like I'm sitting on gold here or anything.

The domain is oedesign.com

The first party that I decided might be interested in this domain is a Malaysian jewelry design company called... OEDesign. They have the domain oedesign.com.my and I get a lot of their traffic and several important emails a day intended for them. They've also recently acquired oedesign.org.

The second website I've found that might also be interested in my domain is oe-design.com, an Austrailian web design company.

My logic is, .com is better than .com.my or .org and no hyphen is better than a hyphen.. so either of these 2 sites would pay me at least $10 for the thing.

Anyway, what actually got me started on trying to figure out exactly how to go about selling it is that I got an email today from someone asking if I am interested in selling. As you can see, all that is on the site right now is some stupid notebook ad and nothing that is trying to sell the domain.

So, I ask you pros, what is the best way to go about replying to this interested person and how should I get the most out of this domain?

Thanks for your time, I appreciate any advice. :)

ok.
"oe design" shows the Malysian site first.
that is good.
the number of results in google is not good.
looks like a small company.
oe-design Australia's site looks good. BUT, it is a standard template.
Not too good as far as a good precence is concerned.
Best strategy.
Approach both companies and ask if they are interested in buying.
The domain itself is not too well based.
at first glance that is... until...
OE.
Original Equipment
(leeds to OEM)
yet... it still doesnt have any ovt to back it up.
attempt to sell it to them, or keep for the future.
as is it doesnt hold much weight, for now.

Thank you very much seeker. How do you think I should reply to this recent inquiry? Which is the best strategy: name a price, or ask for an offer?

Turns out the best strategy for me was to become too busy to reply to the inquiry. She followed up with an offer of $500 USD, which I am happy with considering I have only about $16 invested in this domain.

I have emailed the Malaysian company giving them a final chance to make an offer over $600 before I sell the domain to an end user.

Now, how do you guys usually complete the transaction for domains? Do you use Paypal or some other type of payment? All this person who made the offer has said to me is that she is outside of the USA so she doesn't know the best way to make the payment.

Also, I've never sold a domain so I don't even know how to "push" them. It's registered through NameCheap. Does she have to get an account on NameCheap for me to transfer the domain to her?

Thanks a lot for your help and sorry for my ignorance.

you could use paypal. However only if they are a verified member, otherwise dont take the chance. Even though the amount isnt too big, its better to be carefull.
If you trust the buyer, use paypal, otherwise use escrow.com

You can push the name once they create a free account at namecheap.
Otherwise, they can transfer the name.

That they are in Malaysia doesn't mean that they are not in a financial position to pay more for the domain. My last large private sale was an initial offer of $500 - I ended up selling for $xx,xxx :-D
