Hi, could someone take the time to give me a brief explanation/definition/Vs of the terms used to describe the various states that a domain name can be in? Or a link that explains it. I have read about 15-20 explanations that all differ lol.

on hold, dropped, expired, deleted? Thanks very much.

deleted, dropped = a domain that was once registered but is now available for registration

expired = same as dropped, or the state a domain is in just before dropping, but after it's registration has run out

on hold = I believe this is limbo between registered and dropped, such as if a registrar was to take a domain back for nonpayment or (in some cases) just didn't want to let it expire

I'm sure others could fill in more details or correct anything I don't have quite right

Thank you VM.
One more question. Why then, for example, would a domain name that is listed as registered until late 2004 be showing as "on hold"?.

Thanks again!
