Ever since I switched to Hostmonster I'm getting database errors from them, a few a week.

There has been a problem with the database!
This is a notice email to let you know that SMF could not connect to the database, contact your host if this continues.

I get them from some of my SMF forums and some of my WP sites.

Are they using MySQL databases on localhost or on a seperate machine?

Also what do you expect when you get Unlimited Bandwidth, Unlimited Harddrive space, etc for only $6/mo

You get what you pay for with these large hosts. They cram their servers full and the uptime is horrific. Their SQL servers are overloaded hence the reason you get the MySQL errors. The SQL server is down, has too many connections, or being reset due to the overload.

It appears HostMonster has a lot of these reviews on some hosting forums.

It'd be better to look elsewhere.

I am pretty sure it is localhost (that is what it is set up on the forums and blogs).

It's also my lower end sites, the sites that get steady traffic don't seem to be getting this error.

I don't know then. I added some more to the post above.

I've tried them all back in the day before finally getting dedicated servers.

I'd love to get a dedicated server but I know there is no way I'd be able to afford it especially at this time. HostMonster is probably the second cheapest I've seen (next to 1&1) so I am not expecting top quality but this is something I never got with 1&1 and it wasn't a localhost with them.

Luckily, though, the one domain that has the most errors I am discontinuing that project anyway.

I guess it depends on the number and types of sites you have with what type of hosting you go with.
