I was pleased to see some further discussion on numeric-domains in 9888's recent post. It seems that slowly but surely numeric-domains are nudging their way into the market. There has been quite a bit of activity in the space with some notable sales (728.com sold at SnapNames for $10,250) and the recent launch of companies using numeric-domains as their main Web sites such as 80108.com and 41414.com.and

I was equally pleased that a blogger at Jamptap shared some insights into the details of the relationship between Worddial and Yahoo. In that blog, located here: http://jamptap.blogspot.com/ , the blogger made reference to a number of numeric-domains including:

3776.com (ESPN)

354257.com (Flickr)

What Worddial and others have done is brilliant in its simplicity. Register numeric-domains that have generic or brandable equivalents on cell phone dial pads. Because each string of numbers can represent potentially hundreds or thousands of alpha names, words or phrases, until the domain is specifically purposed, it's just that, a string of numbers. No trade mark issues. No squatting issues, just a string of numbers.

(pssst.... anyone can access the MySpace site on cell/mobile using 6977223.com... even us Canucks, and everyone else who are NOT Vodafone subscribers ponying up and extra $2.99 for the privilege). Wonder how much wampum changed hands in that deal? :cheeky:

jamptap says that Worddial owns over 1 million numbered (I assume they mean numeric) domains. Is that correct??? They also say that 3973342.com (expedia.com) on April 24 but WHOIS shows a renewal date in September.

Worddial has confirmed that they are well shy of 1 million domains, numeric or otherwise.

I thought about this three or four years ago. I registered 9663.com thinking that it would be good for ZONE.com. We shall see. It's a waiting game.
