Hi all,

I own HOTELSTAY.com, .net, .org and just received a netsol certified offer for $700 today. Earlier in the week I had a $1,200 offer through Sedo. I have an asking price of $17,000 which is feel is reasonable for such a brandable hotel name.

What's it worth? Give me some opinions here, thanks!

Usually travel agents are more interested in these kind of domains, hence the expected selling price will be closer to low to mid 4 figures.

I think $17,000 is unrealistic, I would be happy with mid-high x,xxx

I personally feel it's a great domain name. What it's worth I am not 100% sure. You should pay a company to give you an official appriasal. I would guess it would be some where in the $X,XXX to $XX,XXX but where in that range I am not 100% sure.

I think you misread; $17k is his asking price, not the offer.

The asking price seems a little too high, but you can definitely get more than $1200 from the right end user. Shop it out to travel agencies for best results.

I'd trust the input from active members in domain biz over some automated software with pre-defined algorithms any day :)

Keep the input coming folks..
Based on the first couple of posts it sounds like a fair sale value to shoot for would be several thousand? I would think 17,000 vs. 8,000 or so would hardly make much of a difference to a properly funded online travel startup. Hotel Reservations online is a huge biz, Expedia, HotWire, Priceline, Travelocity, Hotels.com, etc..

I agree with you to a certain extent. While the professional systems are not 100% accurate and can be way off, so are the majority of domain appraisals. Sometimes you'll be able to get much more than the apprasial amount. Sometimes you'll get less. There is no fool proof system when it comes to a domain apprasial. The market place decides the true value in the end.

I must admit - I wouldn't have thought this was worth alot. If I saw it for sale I wouldn't have considered buying it as it's not a term I would use at all.

So if I didn't know you had offers on the table I would have said low$xxx. I think these are good offers and you should cash in if you can.

But as I said, I wouldn't have thought it was worth anything so hey!?

Also, don't pay for an appriasal. IMO they're artificailly inflated to justify their cost and as said above, the only way to value is what you're offered! lol

depends on how long you've had the name... just cause you got two offers this week doesn't mean high demand. How long have you had these names with no offers? I'd be able to make a better judgement then.

With the information available, I'd say that the first offer is always a lowball. If someone is willing to offer $1,200 first time around, I'd said you can get as much as $3K - $5K out of the same person.

IMHO, send a counter-offer back at $5K and go from there.

I've had it for about 4 years or so and received a few other offers in that time too. I believe the $1200 is now the highest. I've always liked this one and still believe it is worth more.. "hotel" and "stay" are definitely used in the same context quite a bit. "Enjoy your stay!" is commonly used at the check-in counter of hotels everywhere. Usually as a phrase "Hotel Stay" isn't used together but it makes sense and it's a creative, catchy combination. I lowered the $17k to $12k to see if there was a response at Sedo. Based on everyone's comments I may have to drop it lower but at the same time I am in no hurry to actively sell it. Thanks for the comments so far!
