As the DNJournal is considered by many to be the weekly 'business read' for the industry it would be interesting to find out just how many of us read it as a matter of course every week?

Do you find it helpful? Do you study domain prices?

I read DNjournal every Wednesday morning for the sales and I check the Lowdown a few times a week. The Traffic review was another excellent read today.

how religiously do you read it?

what's important is, what you get out of it...

you could read it every night before you go to bed

and wake-up in the morning, still clutching your laptop with the page "froze" on the url!

still groggy from the dreams of having YOUR name published at dnj with a high closing price.

or better yet

you were reading a story about the auctions and got "caught-up" in the illusion of actually being there

you are now part of the "buzz"!
can ya hear it...buzz buzz :)

the way the tale is told makes your eyes bulge from your head
all that "big time" domain dealing...better than being in a casino in vegas!

now --- wake up!

when you look at the prices that domains are selling for

and then when someone here at dnf, offers similiar caliber names....you lowball them!

even when you frown on spending more than "15 months" revenue on a possible tm typo that has "ovt w/ext" for sale here, and see those same names go for big bucks in the journal for much more!

do you read "in between the lines"?

start spending some of that money now....before you get priced out!

Biggedon,

That was good!

The thing to notice though is it is just the same regular posters basically who have posted here, I kind of wonder if new domainers read it and study the sales for the past 3 years?

I asked in an earlier thread tonight for valuations on 2 domains to see if anyone would say 'ah yes, wait a minute, I saw a similar domain sale reported in the DNJ a few months back!' Only had one reply, and you guessed it my hunch was proved correct - no mention of past sales at all!

It is worrying that people think they 'know the markets' without even reading what is, in my opinion the best informed news source freely available to all us domainers.

It's the definitive source of current sales and trends.

But Don's response was definitely a classic :-D

I wouldn't be me if I didn't shock at least one person each day Theo :boxing:

The truth is I've read many articles in domain type news here on forums and on assorted domain type sites. I've found alot of it is at times an attempt to either create a trend, or just boost a trend where certain folks already hold some good real-estate. When you capture the attention of many, All it takes is the slightest mention to get the affect you intend. I rarely comment on it in threads, but it happens all over the place. Anytime a single person, group, or an organization holds a large audience with the ability to influence them you will see this happening. I generally keep an eye open for the daily values of domains based on witnessing a sale first hand in sale threads and such in several forums. I watch domains/sites on ebay, snapnames, and other places. On more than one occasion I've seen staged sales to boost popularity. The methods to portray what you need are plenty, one method happens to be media. I do read whats going on, but I try to get my information un-filtered. A good example is ovt scores, so many use ovt scores to know how much a particular domain/term or word is typed into yahoo each month... people are payed to type these into search to get results, thats been going on a long time. The information gathered from these media sites can be used to help sales but I really dont need it. Yah, I check ovt on my domains, but I don't always buy based on it.

Was that enough wind :)

True, however what is more interesting is the unreported sales :)

From a generally .uk standpoint it seems only Sedo prices are revealed - which is great for when you are buying

Unreported sales are just that, unreported.

Maybe once every week or two.

I find that DNJ is a haven for spammers, so I usually don't report my sales.

I read it all the time. When I was registering my Japanese portfolio I tried to stay to commercial generics in Japanese that made the YTD list. After the strategy was set it's still good to see which domains in English sold & I have the Japanese IDN equivalent.

Other than reading the rundown on weekly sales when they are posted here at dnf - never. There are only so many hours in a day.

I read it at least every Tuesday like most here but I also like to catch the new articles too. I study the sales and to be honest every week I scratch my head saying why did that name sell for that. I find it helpful but at times confusing becasuse some names sales simply follow no pattern. For a domain professional it is one of the best tools we have. There will be many times where the names sales build on each other and thats where I find allot of important information. Like certain cctld is becoming hot or a certain word etc... A+ for that DNJournal.
