For Sale how many weeks after a domain expires, it is released ?

I've read that sometimes it can take even few months ( whatever the reason for this migh be ), but does it happen, that a domain becomes available f.e only 10 or 14 days after the expiration date ?

I've seen names drop a day after it expires. I've seen names drop up to 4 years after it expires. It all depends on the name, and where its registered at.

but honestly I don't know why it is so...
you say that it depends on the name - does it mean that "good" domains aren't released fast ?
