How much should I ask?

I have a site that is a few years old, lots of natural backlinks, designed by myself, all unique content, generates about $150-200 per day in adsense, how much should I ask?

What factors do you take into consideration on this?

The idea of selling it is just that, just an idea.

I’d appreciate any information or pointing me towards to right thread / post.

Assuming you have proof of several years of consistent income and the site doesn't take too long to maintain, I would ask for 2-3 years revenue (so $110,000-$220,000).

It's tough to find buyers at such a high pricepoint, but I wouldn't let such a site go for under 6 figures.

I would say more then 2-3 for such a high revenue. Do you have members or pure content. A members base adds value. The domain itself adds value if its good. Certainly sounds like a xxx,xxx site. YouTube.com a nonprofitable site sells for 1.6 billion so it really depends on the site traffic and buyers needs.

Two pretty important variables: How much does it cost you to get that revenue? How secure is the revenue stream? If someone can take it over, do no work and count on that revenue stream continuing, then you might be looking at 4 years plus. If there are costs associated or a good chance of the revenue going away, you might be looking at less than 1 year.

It's consistent income and it does require about 30 minutes a day (my only cost). No member base. I figured that finding someone for such a purchase would be unlikely.

Month after month of dealing with the site, even 30 minutes a day, wears on you. Nothing lasts forever and I've have great luck so far, but it all depends on the search engines and the idea of cashing out and not worrying about it sometimes gets me going.

I'll keep going but if I decide to sell, I now have a better idea of what to look for!

Keep in mind: In this business 30 minutes per day for one website is far too much in terms of resources for many of those who can afford six figure sites.

the genre is also very important, for example, a myspace resource site could be hot today, but cold tomorrow. a site dealing with pets, could be hot forever, giving it more value.

I would say that 2-3 years revenue would be a good ballpark estimate.

It's hard to ask for more then 2-3 years revenue in such an unpredictable and unstable market.

Source of traffic, niche, potential to further grow traffic and revenue figures, etc. Sounds like you got yourself a cash cow

Unless you have a considerable investment you need to recoup, plus ongoing expenses, why would you consider selling such a profitable site unless it is encumbered? Surely 30 minutes of maintenance per day is worth maintaining such a revenue stream.

The stability of the income is paramount.

If prospective buyers believe that the income is relatively stable for the long term, you should not encounter a problem selling the site for a fair price.

I dont know enough detail (domain and niche) to make a comment but I will say that if you post such a nice revenue and give the detail you will have an army of copycats on your tail. Be very careful who you confide in. I'm not kidding, I've seen many sites copied after being exposed with the details of potential and other information. Domain sale information is the best place for some people to get good ideas for their next project.

All that aside. I have crappy domains parked making revenue. I wouldnt sell them for 2-3 years revenue. And I have sites earning as well and I wouldnt sell them either for 2-3 years revenue. I take my earnings and i buy more which puts my eggs in several baskets. If the revenue is solid then selling is not an option. If your nervous of its future then perhaps it isnt worth so many years revenue as you would know better than most its future potential. Your half hour a day after all this time might be an hour or two for someone just getting involved, and thats even if the buyer is as good at whatever it is your doing. Thats an awesome revenue and its my opinion you should take some of those earnings and re-invest wisely. keep a close eye on whatever concerns you and make concessions to maintain the current income.

Hello again,

It's been a year since I posted this thread, and the site is still going strong, still making money, more than before not including the ebook sales. It's been like this for many years and the only time required with the site is sending out ebooks.

Once again, I'm considering selling it. Perhaps things have changed since last year, so I'm checking with all of you to find out the latest formula for calculating a starting price.
