Is auth code enough to change whois ownership?

Yes, the auth code is all you need for .de.

Some old fashion providers might ask you for paperwork, but its really not required. Find a provider that does not ask for it and transfer the domain over (and change the ownership) in realtime.

Let me know if you have additional questions. (I am an accredited registrar with Denic - no intention to offer anything).

Thanks Stephan.

The ".de" domain is registered with Godaddy, potential buyer in Italy

The AuthCode should be enough.
