HUGE .CA Drops Today (Jan 5th, 2006)

Just a heads up for those who are interested in .CA domains. There will be a HUGE drop of 3,458 names TODAY (Jan 5th, 2006).

http://tbr.cira.ca/tbrlist_p?datet=2006/01/05

FYI: the usual daily volume is around 300 or less. And for those who are curious, this is the anniversary (November 1st +30 days + holidays) of the opening up of .CA domains.

Let's make it a more perfectly competitive market. ;)

EDIT: Link added.

Dammit dude! shhhhh.. hehe

I've been planning months for today. "0" hour hurry up and get here.

The bids are getting high.. some in the 3k area. unfortunately alot of the servers who handle these arent used to this traffic and are loading slower than the worst sites.

I just made a thread in the lounge. It was pretty huge. I got top bid at sibername for raft.ca and caban.ca.

Hopefully they go through.

You can get an idea on where to bid by looking at the results from today. It lists the registrar that was successful. There doesn't seem to be a clear winner in all results. It's all over the place.

I used sibername.ca and didn't get anything.

http://sibername.com/tbr/results.php

Also by looking at the list you can see that JackSplat won both of his at www.dotcanuck.com

How did you win those?

As per my phone call to CIRA 12 mins ago, the drop hadn't happened yet. (Delayed due to volume of drop)

I haven't used sibername before, but I do know there is more than one drop catch service going after the same names, so competiton will be stiff.

Good Luck to All!!

.ca is probably the biggest pain in the butt to do well in dropping names. It takes time, and quick fingers and a fast as F**k computer sometimes. Just imagine 20-30 snapnames auctions all ending at close to the same time, with all the same names.

I didnt win my top 4 names i was going for today, but i still have about 10 great ones. I'm still waiting for confirmation from registry.. but have some confirmed by registrar. So I'm somewhat happy.

Not bad, but certainly not money names. Those were the bottom of my list.

but still better than nothing.

I got:

CanadianBarAssociation.ca

(seeing how I wrote the LSATs 'n all)

Just happen to hand reg:

Mtrl.ca

But I'll be danged if 98% of my 250 Name List is gone - even all the weird LLL combos.

Top bid at one registrar, but nope I didn't get them.

I certainly wanted them both. My last name is Caban :(

After confirmation of ownership from cira... they were taken by some of the big hitters. 2 of these on your list.. and another. Considering I won at least 20 today, i wont lose any sleep over it.. but i did lose one i wanted to keep.. reclaim.ca

I'm partial to helping people get their surnames and names.. If you had told me this was your name, I'd have put a big effort to get this for you with my tactics and not charged you more than my cost.

Kevin.

p.s. almost all of my kids names, my wifes name and my surname and all 7 of my middle names are help by squatters. only 3 of all of these possible names are held by people who actually have claim to them. So yes, I take it to heart.

You seem like a really stand up guy JackSplat. I'm glad Canada has such a influence on the DN industry with such players as yourself and DCG etc.

I'm likely quitting my day time job next month to focus on my publishing. I'm pretty excited about it and I'm sure there is a lot you could teach me :) I'll keep an eye on you.

With all due respect Kevin, I think this is a stupid and irresponsible post. How do you know the names of the "wives and kids" of the people that supposedly own your "wifes and kids names"?. You don't. To call them squatters is BS. Just cause you have a kid, does not give you the right to their name.

Get off your high horse.
