I'm writing this now at 345 am Japan time about huge domains. I inquired about one domain I had in mind of 20. On one, they would only take down 3% of their bin... Really flexible. I actually was looking to seek $20k in domains and get a little bigger discount.

Unfortunately I was connected by a sales Rep Andy I believe.

After stating that I'm not and end user but wish to invest $20k in some names if he would budge a little, without apology he hung up on me.

Sorry, but I've heard the "I am loaded with cash and I will buy lots of domains later if you sell one to me at an absurdly low price right now" story way too many times, and they have too.

If you REALLY intended to make a bulk buy that would be your upfront offer and discussion. Otherwise, you're just another tire kicker, and tire kickers aren't buyers.

Approach with your $20k purchase order and the list of domains you want, and you'll be taken seriously.

Yup another gaijin not kicking tires. Only problem is all proceed are BIN and when dealing with BuyDomains they usually cut you a 30 to 50% slack. After hearing less than 3% discount on one domain he sounded offended and hung up. Cost him 20k and can always find brandables.

Again: You ARE a tire kicker. You're trying to buy 1 domain cheap, that's not a "bulk sale" and you have no right to demand a bulk discount as you are asserting here. The 20k is just empty talk since that wasn't what you offered, according to your own statement.

I am a tirekicker on this forum though as it's mainly reseller prices and won't go higher than I believe it's worth, though I found value in some of hugedomains collection I didn't want to kick too much on... but 3% discount on first domain? It better have been a brokered deal for that, but still no excuse to hang up on someone without at least an "I'm sorry, but can't sell lower than XXXX, can you go higher? " then we could make a deal or walk away.

You can call me 247 and even if I'm sleeping, I will still give you respect as a customer and give you the time of the day.

Hugedomain.com just has a terrible case of the Thursdays.

I'm sorry if you got my statement wrong, I opened with "I'm looking at 10 domains you have for sale".

He wanted to know the first, I said X and he said that will cost Y (3% discount ) then hung up before going down the prepared list to end up with a fair Z for both parties.

and most tire kickers fail to consider, how many others came before them....kicking on the same tires.


HD has probably experienced the same thing (tire-kicking) for the premo's they hold and patience for the same "okey-doke lines" runs out soon.

You may be looking to spend a decent amount but they do here this stuff all day.

If your looking to do a bulk purchase, make your list and send your offer. If a deal can be made it will, if both sides are too far apart...no deal.

No need to draw out a negotiation one domain at a time.

Eh maybe it was just my demeanor as I was groggy at nearly 4am waiting on calling or it's the fact he wanted to go down the list 1 by 1.

A coincidence 10 minutes after I called him, I got an unsolicited call for hosting though. Could be in cahoots or they just so happened to get my number from a whois at one point and happened to call 10 minutes later.

No one offering $20k is a tire kicker in my book. I actually find that this is a common tactic among certain domain owners.

Their whole approach and strategy is to hurl abuse, be rude, and all together give the show of not wanting to sell. That way only the most crazy-throw-cash-around-must-have-it-now buyers qualify.

I had a negotiation go like this once:

How much do you want?
- $26k
I'll give you $10k.
- I'll go $20k.
I can't do that.
- K.

(Two weeks later.)

Hey, I can go $14k.
- I'm thinking more like $40k.
Don't be like that, I'll give you the $20k you wanted.
- I'm thinking more like $75k now.

Annoying, but I ended up buying someone else's domain for $14k, so whatever.

Listed for $1200, next day of my offer, it's now listed at $1600.

hugedomains is..huge. they have so many domains and make a lot of sales. they don't need you. andy was most likely andrew, the owner.

Good for them, but they're still poor at conducting business and should take some classes on customer satisfaction.

Instead of saying "let's go one by one"... "I understand it's late there and maybe you could send me an email containing the domains you're looking at and we could go from there".

GreatDomains is even bigger and willing to work with you. I've purchased multiple times through them, with "BUY NOW" and met in the middle on some, so HugeDomains is just another venue I won't be buying from. Their (small) loss.

And it's not tire kicking when you have a list of what you want to pay (which was around $20K of their priced domains of $23K, and I could have still met in the middle or bought from them if they had good people working for them or the owner wasn't hardheaded.

now the closer you are to the asking price, increases your chances of not being hung-up on or your email being deleted.

Annoying, but I ended up buying someone else's domain for $14k, so whatever.

and those who are waiting for 'right' buyer, won't care.


cuz, as more inquires and offers are received for name over a given period.... it's value will increase in the mind of the owner

that's why you'll often see the price go up after you've walked.

2, the domain was listed for $1250, I asked on my first O/CO [CO = hang up] $1100 which I thought was fair as I prepared a list of domains totaling ~$20k that aren't "premium" per say, but wanted anywhere from $0-$3000 discount for a bulk purchase. Now that the domain has interest, he stuck it up for $1600 making my $1100 look like a lowballing tire-kicker before continuing down the list.

Andrew may be a big player in the game, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s unprofessional and someone will replace him sooner or later because he does not know how to treat customers… Maybe if he owns 300,000 premium domain names and making "millions", he should hire a sales representative that has phone etiquette and also get a better phone system or learn how to mute because I could hear him breathing heavily after calling him back (thought it may have been an error) through the phone menu (Press 1 for HMMMMGMMMMM, Press HHMMDMMMMMGGGHHHM 2 for).

you're not a customer, unless you buy or have bought something

other than that, you're just walking around the store touching shit and looking at the prices.

when you find an item you like, you bring it to the cash register and either pay with cash, write a check or swipe your card.

may sound hardcore, but you can't expect others to respond to you, the way you think they should and then call them unprofessional

if you approach seller with offer less than asking price, is that not a sign of disrespect?

but since so many do it and pass the habit, they think it's a standard operating procedure.


if you ballin with $20k, why not buy the one domain at listed price ($1200) as a good faith effort, in hopes of getting a discount on other names, rather than starting out being cheap?

i have no problem giving discounts to repeat buyers who've purchased at or near cost in the past, but new buyers gotta show me same respect they think they want in return.

The way they work is not the same as people buy/sell from forums.

They don't give a squat if you call yourself a reseller or whatever.

It's better if you deal with them ONE NAME AT A TIME because they will not bother for BULK offer.
$20K for LOT offers is most likely LOW BALL Offer to them. When talking to them forget about "Discount, Lot offer, Bulk offer, reseller...." they don't really care.

Make offer on ONE name at a time.

Then grab a box of cereal and DEMAND that they sell it to you at 1/2 the price shown on the shelf.

That's essentially what you did.

You are an "end user" trying to lowball them on ONE domain, according to YOU. Everything else is your imagination.

Droplister, he never offered 20k. And if you've never seen a tire kicker with big talk and no money, may I introduce you to the the "want to buy" section of DNF. Look at all of the people posting they have a "big budget", and look at their history -- most of the "big spenders" haven't spent more than $50, even years after the post.

You either made that stuff up to bolster your case, or you never actually dealt with HugeDomains, and many dialed a random number and they hung up on you.
