Is it generally understood that 'i' before a name means Internet, and 'e' electronic?

If the generic name you want is taken, and you really want the keyword, which of these do you think is better - ixxxxxxxxxx.com or exxxxxxxxxx.com? Or are they pretty equal?

I think it will depend on the keyword.

But "i" is becoming more and more popular due to iphone, ipod , ireport etc....

Mostly agree. There are quite a few "e" sites as well..... eTrade.com. eHarmony.com, etc....


Some folks believe that these prefixes ("i", "e" and on a lesser scale "v") will become passé. I believe just the opposite. These types of names will indicate a credibility to them either real or perceived. They were registered early on probably right after the root word(s) were taken. The stronger the keyword, the more likely that the names with these prefixes are already registered. But, just because a domain is registered doesn't make it valuable. I think that we all can agree on that.
As far as I am concerned, I am always on the lookout for great "i", "e" and "v" names.

I think that 'e' has more of a connotation of 'ecommerce' (which, in turn, means 'electronic commerce') but has become a dictionary word like internet or email.

'V' probably is more connected to 'virtual', another internet-age catch word.

In all of prefixed one keyword domains, the value is in development potential and always in the eye of the end-user. Don't count on many type-ins.

i'm talking in general... as an industry (not domains) trend, when you talk to Telecoms/IT people m denotes mobile...

do some google search on things like mAdvertising, mBanking, etc...
